? Possible adjustment...?

I'm wondering if it's time to adjust Merlin's dose to 0.50 U? Does anyone have any thoughts?

I haven't been able to test as frequently as I'd like right now, but we've had to skip injections three times now at 0.75 U.

I’m wondering why you skipped with a 158 on the a.m. cycle on 5/2. Looks like you were able to get a +3. It would have been an opportunity to see what he would do. I don’t think he’s ready for a reduction. What is your no shot number?

The vet told me to skip if under 200. I was told the same here on the board. Did I miss something?

We're in the middle of moving so things are not normal routine at all. In addition, one of my other cats was just diagnosed with CKD, and a third with thyroid disease. I'm scattered to say the least and trying to absorb as much as I can as fast as I can while organizing and packing.

I remember your situation now. Skipping under 200 is an option. Also is shooting a token dose of .25. Rather than skip it’s a good idea you find a dose you can shoot comfortably every 12 hours so do give .50 a try. Good luck. How’s everyone doing?

When following SLGS, the dose is reduced when they go below 90, which he has not yet done. Having said that, and what is happening at your place now, you could reduce and see if that helps you shoot more consistently.

For people new to FDMB and posting on the Feline Health Forum, we suggest no shot under 200. On this forum, and following SLGS, there are other options when new and the preshot BG is between 150 and 200, including waiting until the number comes up, or partial doses. Over time and as you gather more data, the no shot number can move as low as 90.

Thank you so much for clarifying. I am indeed looking for a good number to shoot consistently and without worry - for now. I want to be able to keep him safe at all times, especially since after this messy phase is over we still have a two day drive ahead. When we get settled at our new place I will be trying for much better numbers.

I will reduce to .50 and see how that goes. If/when he's between 150 and 200 I can give .25 instead...? Does this sound logical and reasonable? Does it sound safe? Or should I only do the partial dose if it's in the morning?

Everyone is doing reasonably well, thank you for asking. CKD boy is the most worrisome, but he's at least eating better at the moment, and has even had short spurts of semi-normalcy here and there. I'm doing the best I can with what I have available until supplies arrive. Merlin is in good spirits, back to his pre-diabetic self, and eating well. Thyroid kitty is constantly asking for food and he gets it whenever he wants. Vet will re-check his numbers for possible dosage adjustment right before we leave.

That’s a lot to have to handle all at once. I’m glad they all are improving I suspect .50 will work. If between 150-200 you can shoot .25 whenever you can’t monitor closely for now. If under 150 skip. If that happens too much you can try .25 but one step at a time..
