I fed him gave him his 1 unit shot and at 8:00 pm will test his blood! At 10:15 I will feed him again. (I sold some things to my neighbor to buy the blood glucose monitoring system. Where there is a will there is a way I just had to find it)
I want to say thank you all from the bottom of my heart I honestly don't know what I would have done without you all! I appreciate the offer to help but I could not accept a private donation lol! I took your advice and bought the Walmart ReliOn Prime. I bought a hundred test strips and 200 micro-thin lancets.
Like they're supposed to be shown.
I am so thankful to know that there is an organization that could help with his medicine if he needs to stay on the Lantus instead of a generic. My son will cancel the Amazon order when he gets home :) I can't remember being as terrified as I was last night (and I'm used to crazy things happening)
I'm going to print out the chart and other things you guys have that I need to fill out/document his progress.
I just wanted to give you guys an update on how he was doing and what I've been doing <3 you all have my ultimate respect and appreciation! Ill be back with numbers then readings <3

This is a great place isn't it? I'm glad everything is better today! If you have some rice at home, put some in a small sock and tie that up. I use the rice sock and warm it up in the microwave for about 25 seconds and test it on myself first to be sure it's not too hot. This is so helpful holding it on Aurora's ear for maybe 30 seconds before I use the lancet - the warm ear gives a nice drop of blood quickly.

I just was reading about Pooter and wondering. You are a good Mama. I hope he continues to do well. bless your little kitty. people suck using animals and children as tools to manipulate others. There is a special place in hell for folks like that. I hope Karma gets your Ex good.

Anna I was reading your post from yesterday as well and wanted to chime in, I'm in the same boat as you and I'm sure many of the other members here as well as far as the vet diagnosing diabetic and just sending us on our way to blindly shoot insulin. When Aurora was first diagnosed a few months ago, we stared her at 2 units 2x per day and then I took her back 10 days later for the curve test. They increased her dose to 3 units and told me to come back again in 3 weeks for another curve. I asked about home testing but the vet said they would show me that in 3 weeks time. I'm a very hands on pet owner, and probably a little too much, I research and take stuff to the vet and tell them what I think. I think the one vet I'm currently working with finds me too over the top and annoying but I'll take that as a compliment. Thank goodness I joined the group! I had a gut feeling a few weeks ago to go and buy the meter and strips from Walmart. I stopped, got the supplies, came home that night, tested and posted my 1st time on the board. THANK GOODNESS I did because Aurora was having a normal number and if I would have shot the 3 units, she would have gone hypo from way too much insulin and she might not be here with us today. Testing at home is so critical!!! I'm sorta in a pickle now because I haven't told my vet that I joined the group, learned how to test at home, and have now reduced her insulin from 3 full units to a small micro dose of .25! It's just going to be a weird conversation to explain that I'm making adjustments at home without even consulting with her. So for now, I'm avoiding. LOL
It just sucks because technically, it was wrong of her to send me home and just think it was okay to blindly shoot....but I feel when I provide her with a curve that I'm doing at home, she's going to be like who are you, you're not the vet, I am.
But, we all end up here and I'm so thankful!!! The group has been literally, a lifesaver for Aurora!

Hi Anna.

I'm so glad you were able to get the meter and strips and that 'Pooter seems to be doing well this morning. I hope things are looking a little brighter for you.

Here is a post that will help you with testing, just some tricks many of us use to make it easier on you and the kitty: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/hometesting-links-and-tips.287/ If Pooter likes treats, some diabetic friendly ones are freeze-dried meats like chicken or salmon. If you buy the dog ones, they end up being cheaper - they are bigger so you can break off a piece and the bag lasts longer. Also, plain cooked chicken is usually very popular with cats. I used to boil a thigh and cut it into bite-sized pieces, and the treat would be a couple of those pieces.

Let us know when you get your readings, and if you need help setting up the spreadsheet. The instructions are in that link I posted last thing last night.

Could you please go back to last night's post and take off the 911? Thanks.
