Hi. I am new here and this is my first post. I am located in the middle of MN.
My cat, Smudge was diagnosed with the dreadful disease about four and half months ago. At the time he weighed about 28 lbs. Big boned and big boy. He is also on Vetmedin, Enelapril (sp?) and Lasix for a deformed heart. He is about 9 years old. When he first when in he had neuropathy and walked on his haunches. He was put on ProZinc 2 Units 2x/day. Oddly....about a couple of weeks ago he was running very low in the 40's and the Vet had continued his Units although reduced them to 1 2x/day. I bought a AlphTak2 and tested him at home and he was in the 60's and i decided to cut him back to half a unit 2x/day. Some other diabetes Groups said he should try without as he could have died so for over a week now he has been off insulin and has had a good appetite except for the last two days.
He has had some loose smelly stool. In fact ran back and forth to the potty three times in a row although didn't always poop. I think he has peed a little. He eats but reluctantly and not as much. He was eating FF Classics at 3.5-4 cans a day. It is a lot to get in him really.I weighed him yesterday and he weighed in at 23.5 lbs.
I only am able to if lucky get 3 cans in him. Actually that is what he normally ate at the beginning when everyone wanted him to loose weight. I had to buy tuna (I know....bad) in order to get him to eat a bit. Normally he has been running like 118 in am, 75-90- around 2 pm and evening about 80's 90's but today he was 122 am, 110 at 1:30 and I haven't tested him yet. Was going to wait for two hours to pass first. This is just a tad bit higher than he has been running. I do not know if he is constipated, nauseous or what. HE never drinks water ever since he always has wet food. He is less active in the last two days. What do I do???????
I have ordered Forti-Flora now and the Vet is nearly 45 minutes away. He does not handle travel at all. Cries the whole time.
Is this common with remission cats????????????
Thanks!
