Can anyone take a look at my spreadsheet and tell me why all of a sudden Pooper's glucose wants to dip above 300 now? He has NEVER gone that high and just yesterday was the first time he has. This morning it was 303 before AMPS. What would be causing him to spike that high when I haven't changed his diet and give him the same wet food? I do not see him touch the dry food and even if he does the dry food is low in carbs. I just can't see how the insulin would be a factor because when I do give him a shot his number does drop off. Unfortunately, his number just isn't staying in the low 100s like it has been staying lately. I am lost and I guess the only thing I can think of is the insulin must be going bad since I purchased it back in October and its effectiveness is wearing off. His pancreas is just not healing up like I want it to and do not know what I'm going to spend for Lantus IF that is what all of you think I should put him on to get him to remission.

I wish I understood Pooper better. He was doing well but yes, the numbers seem to be climbing. It is possible that the insulin is losing its potency. Six months is sometimes considered the cut off date and you are getting close to that.

I think you have done amazingly well with a difficult insulin. The advantage of a milder insulin would be that you could shoot those blue pre shots without fearing he could suddenly drop too low, and thus keep him in the lower ranges longer.

Yeah so do you think if he gets to be around 160 or so that I could give him like 0.25 or 0.5 units of insulin to keep his insulin maintained around 90-100?

You could try that IF you can monitor carefully and are fully prepared to bring him up with food or honey. And I would try .25 or even less to start with. Maybe a skinny .25 You pull up .25 and let out a drop or two. But it is a little scary as the insulin is fairly unpredictable. That's why I'd like to see you use another insulin. It is just so much safer when he will be less likely to crash suddenly.

Yeah so would Lantus be the best solution to use to get him to get stabilized and towards remission OTJ? I called local Kroger pharmacy and they only sell the pens in boxes. I do not think I need 1000 units of insulin because I do not think he is that far off from getting stabilized. I figure 1 Lantus pen would do the job but they don't sell individually. Walmart is probably the same way. I'd have to call my vet to do that but just wish someone on here had extra Lantus pens that they won't use and is safe in expiration so I could get it much cheaper.

Have you looked in our supply closet forum. It may already be gone but there was some Levemir and some Prozinc there. You could post on there asking for insulin. You could look on EBay. Sometimes people sell insulin there. Just be sure it's a seller with a good reputation.
