Good Morning Lantus Land!

I'm polling to see what members do to control bubbles, or do you compensate when you get the larger ones?

I seem to have them every day with the lantus pens - I use Surecomfort syringes, ordered Monoject, then heard the hub makes an exact dose difficult. But - so do the bubbles! I'm going to order Terumo - I hear many of you use them.

I've read as much as I can re. bubbles, & I tap, I fill the syringe slowly, & keep the plunger tight when inserting. I hold the pen vertically (but keep it stored horizontally). There's no bubbles in the pen that I can tell, so it's coming from the syringe.

So - I thought I'd make a central polling post to inquire: What do you all do for bubble management????? confused_cat confused_cat confused_cat Hopefully this will help more than just me!!!

Thanks for your input!!

First off, store the pen upright. After using for awhile the membrane can leak a little and you can get bubbles in the pen itself.

I've never used that brand of syringe so not sure on the best technique for them. Each one has it's own quirks. Basically I overdraw the dose and after removing from the pen tap to get any bubbles to the top. Then I pull the plunger back to get even more air in the syringe. This consolidates the bubble into one larger bubble and also evens the meniscus across. Tap lightly to be sure it is evened across and then slowly expel the whole bubble. Occasionally I give up and start a new syringe if I can't get rid of the bubble.

A couple of other things that help is a magnifying visor and as I think I mentioned before a digital caliper, both of which you can get at harbor Freight.

Suzanne. Thanks for your post. It's always nice to read how different members handle the bubble problem. I switched from the MONOJET to the Terumo syringes. Not getting as many bubbles but that could be a coincidence. I wasn't aware the pes could leak and that they should be stored upright. One thing I was advised about on the Terumo syringes is the ease at which they plunger slides. If you think about depressing it it will move...it's very sensitive so you might one to sacrifice one to practice with before putting them into service. That said, I really like them.

Have a great day.

To get rid of those pesky bubbles, after you fill syringe, hold it upright and THUMP it good - not a little flick, THUMP it. To get the feeling, hold barrel against a table edge, shelf, something solid and thump it. Notice how the barrel stays still? THAT is what you want to feel when you thump it. That will usually dislodge any bubbles...

BIG HUGS!

Re: Polling Bubble Mgmt- Hard time controlling - what do you

Thank you all!

Ordered Terumo syringes - am excited to get them. Glad to know about sensitivity of Terumo plungers - will practice & work on psychic ability to hold plunger still ;-)

Am buying caliper fr. HF today - have my coupon & everything $9.99 on sale!

Will try bringing in More air - haven't done that yet, makes perfect sense. Will also store pen upright - I didn't know they leaked, either. Do you store unopened ones that way, too?

Like THUMPING too - can work out aggression issues at the same time!

Thanks again for sharing - I hope this information can help others, too

Ann! If you get this, your suggestion worked. I drew more air into the syringe to level the bubble & it went out pretty smoothly after a few tries! WOW - THANKS SO MUCH!!
