Monday, Poke's BG was 400 at the vet's office. On Tuesday, he started his Purina DM and low dose Glipizide twice a day. Wednesday evening, we went back to the vet and changed his plan to wet food and no Glipizide for two weeks. Wednesday night, we bought a bunch of cans of Friskies and started him off right away. He hasn't had normal stool for a long time. He did today. He was so proud of it that he didn't bother to bury his turd. I was so happy that it wasn't a liquid mess. He already seems happier and more playful. He's also more loving. He's even drinking a little less water and not urinating as much. I've been adding water to his food since taking him off the dry food. We will have to see what's up in two weeks from the vet. I am working on getting a meter so we can test at home. Thank you to everyone who gave advice these last few days. It was very helpful and informative. We appreciate all the support and help.

Hi Wendy!

I'm so pleased to hear that Pokey is feeling better! I expect that means that you're feeling a bit better about things too...?

Will be really interested to find out how a switch to low carb canned food is going to change Pokey's BG numbers. And I love that he produced a good poo! Awwww, bless 'im....

If you're not already doing so, Wendy, it might be wise to check Pokey's urine for ketones at the moment. It'll enable you to pick up any ketone problem quickly and give you reassurance too that all is OK in that department. You can buy Ketostix from any good pharmacy and they're not expensive.

Good luck with beginning hometesting. With a name like 'Pokey' your kitty ought to take to the ear pokes in no time at all!

I will look into the Ketostix. I will have to figure out how to get the urine sample. He is a little quick in the box. I am feeling better. With all the support and help and advice on here, who couldn't feel better about having their beloved pet be a sugar baby. Funny thing is, I've always wanted to adopt special needs cats. Now I have one.
