My cat Heidi was just diagnosed with Diabetic Ketoacidosis. She is in the hospital right now, but when she is out we will be needing a vet with experience treating diabetic cats who we will see on a regular basis. Can anyone please recommend a vet in Houston (specifically we live in zip code 77057) who is familiar with feline diabetes and has experience in treating this? Thank you!!!

I clicked on the Members in the top right of the page (next to Logout) and then clicked on Location. There were a bunch of members in Texas, which I know is a large state. I then went to the H's and found about 8 members with Houston listed as their location.
I would send a PM to all of these members and ask them:
Tena and Curry, Natalia & Enana, Celia & Marco, and Jenn & Baxter.

Good luck with everything. My cat is a DKA survivor.

Hi there! Jenn & Baxter here. Baxter DX Nov 2011.
I live in south Houston. What area of Htown do you live in? Where is Heidi currently? If you want you can PM me.

Don't worry just breathe everything is going to be okay. You are in the right place to get Heidi better. cat_pet_icon

Hi Kathryn,

Just replied to your PM.

Good for you for jumping online and getting some very good information here. And lots of good support.

Please keep us updated on your sweet Heidi.

hugs,
tena

I am another Houstonian whose sweet Gus was just diagnosed as well. Though Gus is also special needs in that he absolutely hates the vet and requires sedation for any vet examination. He is an absolute sweetheart at home, but a terror at the clinic. I hope it is ok for me to PM some of you as well in the hopes of finding a vet that can work with us a bit better. Our current vet wants him in the office frequently and seems resistant to home testing, which will not work for Gus. Regular sedation is so risky! Thank you all in advance for your help and suggestions.

My Baby(GA) would also have to be sedated and FDMB wasn't available yet. When it was I found out about hometesting, mentioned it my vet who thought Baby would never allow it. HA! She never went back in to see him........she was a piece of cake to hometest and after close to 2 years of blindly shooting and dealing with 3 hypos in the works, two in the wee hours, I got a meter and never again anywhere near a hypo and gave us another wonderful 3 1/2 years before her heart gave out. She was at least 18 1/2, adopted her from a pet store when owner gave her up and may have lied about her age.
