Please Need Help. Urine have Bacteria.

Hi all, I Need advise. Miko have been OTJ 124 days. I have post before that Miko after back from vet for blood test, the bg number up to 16.2 mmol, but after 7days later the BG level back to normal. Until today is 7.5mmol at 8.25am. I'm not sure this BG level is normal to MIKO it always between 4.7mmol - 7.9mmol. But my vet said is in good control diabetes no need insulin.

On 10 Nov 2010 Miko meow like crying when pee. Urine test result got blood & leucocytes. After eat antibiotic Clavamox 250mg 1/4 twice a day for 14days we test urine again and the result was all clear, no bacteria & no blood. The result was normal only WBC 25/ul. Vet said is ok. No need to eat pill.

On 21 Dec 2010 5.20am Miko crying meow again when pee at midnight. At that night Miko was pee a little bit every 5 min (13 times) until 7.50am. At 8.55am Miko pee back to normal . We go to Vet to ultrasound and Dr. said Miko didnt have bladder stones. Then give Miko denzo tablet, 1 tablet twice a day for 5 days and recommend us to give 'Blander Strength' Brand: Vetri-Science 1 tablet per day to support Miko normal bladder function.

On 5 Jan 2011 at 3.00am Miko crying again cos he was pee a little bit every 5 min (6 times) til 10.58am, we take the pee for urine test again and the test report show that:

Protein +
Leucocytes +
WBC 25/ul
Epithelial Cells 3/ul
Bacteria +

Vet said have to start back antibiotic Clavamox 250mg 1/4 twice a day for 14days. After 14days need to test urine again. If still have bacteria the the vet said have to change the type of antibiotic for Miko.

PLEASE HELP, do antibiotic can eat every 2 months?

Is it any dangerous on Miko urine report?

PLEASE HELP, I give Miko eat cooked chicken breast everyday, morning 5.00am - 9.00pm every 2hours in small amount. At night i gave Miko eat Evo brand 'Turkey & Chicken Formula Canned Cat and Kitten Food' or Wellness® CORE® Canned Chicken, Turkey & Chicken Liver for every 3 hour. I heard that the canned food is in high protein will be the problem for the kidney. Is that true??

BG level around 4.5 - 7.9mmol, is it normal for OTJ cat?

the vet needs to take a sample of urine from the bladder with a needle, this is called cytocentisis. He needs to send that sample to a lab and have them do a culture and sensitivity test to see which antibiotic the infection will respond to because the clavamox is not doing enough. I am really sorry that you guys are going through this!

oh and if he doesn't go higher than 7.9 it should be ok, but no higher ...infection may have raised his blood glucose levels
 
i'm guessing that because you have a positive test result for bacteria you have a culture and sensitivity test done that shows the types of antibiotic the bacteria are likely to respond to. your vet should choose an antibiotic in the same class mentioned in that test as likely to work.
 
ONe of my cats (not diabetic) had to have surgery because he had bladder stones. Around that time, he got MRSA bacteria in his bladder. we did not know for a few months that he had this horrible bacteria. A culture was done and showed that it would only respond to two antibiotics. We gave a 250 mg pill of a very high powered drug 3 times a day according to the vet. This was a total of 750 mg per day. We only got 10 days of meds in him and almost lost him due to the side effects of the pills. I quit giving the pill. That is a hard antibiotic for a cat to process. I asked another vet about this and got a different dosage suggestion from her. I checked with a pharmacist about the dosage and she said that second vet's dosage was correct. The previous vet's dosage was based on old research from the 1990s. We used the same medicine but gave only 1/4 of the pill in the morning and 1/4 pill in the evening for a total of 125 mg per day. After six weeks on this new dosage, the MRSA was gone. All this to say, get the urine tested so that the report includes what medicine to give. After you get the dosage from your vet, ask your pharmacist to research and let you know what the dosage should be. Then compare. Vets like regular doctors cannot possibly know about all the medicines. That is what the pharmacist does so let them check on it for you. My cat had this bacteria for over a year and a half while we tried that high dosage of the correct medicine and then other antibiotics to ward it off as long as we could. Then when I got another opinion, we got the dosage correct and got rid of the bacteria once and for all. Good luck!

Oh! My cat is eating the same diet that the diabetic cat eats. So far, so good. Once it is easier for the cat to peepee, add water to the food on a regular basis so that the cats get plenty of water. Having extra water helps wash out bacteria too according to the second vet.

This forum is a great place to gain knowledge and i really learn how to take care my baby MIKO. The best site that I have EVER found. I have learned so much, and will continue to learn more. Has vet done an x-ray to check for bladder stones?
They can be very irritating and serve as a hiding place for bacteria too.
Sometimes, they can partially or completely block the urethra, which is life threatening.
