Finally figured out how to put up SS sheet last night. Also figured out I was putting too much neosporin on Cheynne's ear and the test strips weren't working(or from it being on my fingers) It works better now, but blood doesn't ball up as nicely. Anyways, since vet said not to give insulin if under 200 I have only been giving one shot at night. So I know I need to do a curve but am not going to stay up all night to do. Do you think I could give half dose tonite and then half dose tommorow morning and start curve? Also I have been using the solarpen so I would have to start using a syringe to get insulin out of pen for half dose. Not looking forward to doing that either. Don't want to contaminate pen. Also not sure each shot that I have given has actually been inside cat. One I think for sure was a furshot, the others it didn't feel wet but I couldn't tell if needle actually went into skin. I know I am second quessing myself on everything. Cheynne has stopped peeing and drinking so much. Seems to feel better also.

Re: Please look at SS sheet

Good job on the spreadsheet! What is missing is the midcycle number. I think you use Lantus, right? The protocol for Lantus bases dose changes on nadir (+5-6 range) number, not the preshot. If you are away during the day, it may take a few nights of setting the alarm and getting up at night to get the number. Once you know how low the insulin is taking her, you can get advice and adjust the dose. A curve isn't necessary yet; just the midcycle number will give you enough info for now.

I don't use your insulin so can't give much advice. You might add Lantus to your subject line to attract eyes.

Re: Please look at SS sheet

I like your numbers too.
You definitely need some test samples at the +6 ( midpoint of cycle = nadir)
It would be great if you could pop in during the day and get a quick reading 6 hrs after shot time. (peak )
You need to know how low the bg is going at the peak of the dose. It could be going really low and you risk a hypo if you are not home.
The same could happen at night while you are sleeping so it would be good to set the alarm at the 6 hr point or 5 hr just to know how low the bg is going.
I know its hard to give up sleep.
I've been sleep deprived now for weeks. nailbite_smile

You also don't mention if your pre-shot (amps) is before feeding or after.
Mine are always after feeding so the numbers spike a little in reaction to the food.
If you are the same, then your nadir could be even lower and you won't know it without that extra glucose test.

Those of us using the Lantus SoloStar pens do so with syringes due to having more accuracy with the doses. A lot of people use the Relion syringes from WalMart, but I had problems with those. I started using Monoject Ultra-Comforts I ordered from American Diabetes Wholesale, and love them!

Anyway, as long as you push the plunger of the syringe down very tight before inserting the needle in the SoloStar Pen, and make sure you don't put any insulin back into the pen from the syringe, and never use a syringe twice, you shouldn't have any problems contaminating the pen.

Also, what I did with Pumbaa was buzz off his fur over the injection areas on his right and left sides, which really helped me see what I was doing, and prevent fur shots. I use a Wahl hair trimmer which you can find at beauty supply stores as well as at WalMart, I believe.

Hope this helps!
