I started my cat on insulin last week. Now he doesn't want to eat and just lays around. It's like the insulin is making him worse off and not helping.
He seems to be a little better at the 12 hr time and then he gets his insulin and seems worse.
Takes me 45 minutes just to get enough food in him to give his shot. Dr appt today but just trying to figure this out. Any ideas?

I'm sorry your sweet kitty is having troubles. Unfortunately, without further information, I wouldn't want to make a guess at what's going on with him. Are you home testing? How much insulin is he receiving? What type of insulin? Does he have any other health issues? One possibility is that he is getting too large a dose, but there are many other things it could be, as well.

How did the vet visit go? I hope they sorted it all out and your kitty is doing better. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
Thnx so much for asking. Not better. Still high. 389. I had to skip a shot because he wouldn't eat. He got insulin tonight and will get in the morning and I bring him back at 2p tomorrow for another blood test. Hopefully will be lower tomorrow.

It's down to 265 which is alot better but still a ways to go.
Keep in mind it's a marathon. I didn't even see a number in the 200's until I was two months into giving insulin. Also the number isn't going to go down and stay down right away. It's going to curve. Start up, curve down, then go back up when the insulin wears off. Takes a while to get the numbers down. Take a look at a variety of people's spreadsheets so you see what I mean.

Novolin 70/30
That insulin is 70% N insulin and 30% R insulin.
N is a relitively fast acting insulin and is not recommended for cats since it only lasts 8-1- yours. R is even faster actin and lasts 2-4 hours.
If you can't use a lnger acting insulin like the human Lantus and Levemir or pet insulin ProZinc, I would use plain N insulin.
