Please Help me find a Solostar Pen

Hello, I have been reading on the feline diabetes board here for the past couple of years since my boy's precious cat was diagnosed with feline diabetes. He (Elvis) needs just one unit a day to keep him healthy. I have bought 4 of the lantus bottles from Sams Club in the past, but yowza...they are expensive and I end up throwing away a good bit of it. I actually got them to last about 6 months each. But here we go again...time for more "liquid gold" as I call it. I went to Elvis's vet and asked him for a prescription for the Lantus Solostar Pen, he looked at me like I had 2 heads! But after giving him the correct spelling on "Solostar" he did write me a prescription for one pen with one refill. Theres no way I can afford the pack of 5 as I am raising my teen and recently gained custody of my two Grandchildren. (money is a scarce thing around here) I am looking for a pharmacy in the Knoxville area that I could get just one Solostar pen from. Would anyone happen to know of a pharmacy that will break a pack of the pens? I have called soooo many places, and none will do that. I am at the point of tears... :sad: Thank you for any help :smile:
 
From what I've seen in the past, the small, privately owned, non-chain drugstores might be your best bet. They are more flexible with things like that.

Also, try some small, private drugstores in smaller towns around you, outside of the city. You may have better luck.

I've lived in very small towns and in cities and found the pharmacists in the small towns are much more agreeable to things of this nature.

You may find one that will set aside a 5 pack and let you buy the pens individually, as you need them. It's worth a shot.

In Phoenix AZ the Walmart pharmacies will sell one pen. Don't know if all locations do that. Someone told me some Costco pharmacies will sell one pen but the stores in this area won't. I would suggest calling all of the locations of chain pharmacies as the policy may differ.
 
Don't know where you are located, but Target will sell single pens in some stores (Lincoln, RI and Orlando, Fl). Try several of their stores in an area. Some do and some don't.

I agree with cjleo. I spoke with the Target pharmacy here in Oviedo and they will sell a single Lantus or Levemir pen for between $50-60.
 
I also get a single pen from Target, and I use the $25 coupon from the Lantus site. Target knows it is for a kitty, but the coupon goes through!

Here in Las Vegas, I was able to find only ONE pharmacy that would sell me one pen at a time and that was at a Kmart. The Kmart closest to my house wouldn't sell me one pen, but the Kmart about 20 minutes away would. The pharmacist is allowed to make their own rules, I guess. I know some people have had great luck finding Solostar pens on Craigslist for cheap. You just need to be careful and make sure they kept it refrigerated.
 
Thank you all so very much!! I was able to get a couple of pens from a person. None of the pharmacies here in Knox would split a pack :sad: I am so grateful for eveyone's help....God Bless each of you!
