I have been basing Zoey's insulin on preshot numbers for about a month. She has settled down quite a bit (not so bouncy). But she still doesn't seem to be getting numbers in the green. She got into dry cat food on 6/1 which shot her up to a 409, but mostly highs in the 200s and 300s. Is there something I can do to try to get her a little lower during the midcycle or should I just be content with the way she is going? She seems happy and healthy and her urine balls are much smaller lately.

Thanks for any advice you can give me!

Hmmm...Zoey is looking much better these days! A lot more yellows for preshots. There is some room to come down though, with the occasional pink number. It looks like your sliding scale has yellows at a 1.4 and higher at a 1.6? I'm not entirely sure here, Carol. I might consider raising the dose to 1.6 for those yellows (or at least for 250 and up) and 1.8 for higher on a day I could monitor. If you could monitor, that would help see how low that dose would take her and keep her from going too low. That might help to push her into lower numbers so her pancreas have more time to heal. It's definitely up to you, though, that's just what I might do in this situation. :)

I agree with Rachel - that Zoey is getting into nice ranges nd you might up the dose a smidge and see if she drops a little. Some cats are also very carb sensitive and will react to a food with just a few percentage less carbs. Depending on what she is eating, you might find something with a fewer carbs and see if it makes a difference.

Thanks for your input. I was considering raising her a little, but I wanted to get another opinion. I will be home this weekend to check her, so I'll start then. She only eats Fancy Feast Classics and occasionally the Friskies Special Diet. Other than getting an occasional nibble of dog kibble or sneaking into the garage for my Maine Coon's dry food! I did buy some Young Again dry to try on him (MC) to see if I can get him off the higher carb food, but I switched too quickly (half/half instead of 1/4 / 3/4) and he had bad diarrhea, so I added more of his regular dry and he seems to be doing fine. I'd like to switch him to wet only, too, but he's reluctant.

Thanks again, Sue and Rachel. I'll try that for a few weeks and check back in. All in all, I'm feeling good about her. Much better than my first posts in January when I thought for sure she was going to die!
