It's only our fourth day on insulin.
And last night , I gave a furr shot which is why I think our numbers were higher today.

7/12/12 AMPS 347 1u
nadir 186

Shadow was okay with the bg testing at first but we seem to be getting worse at it. I swear she is withholding the blood.
I had to try numerous times each hour and after getting to the midpoint of the cycle, decided to slow down.
Maybe I'm trying to get a curve too early. She's starting to cry, her ears are really tender from too many trials and Ithink she may have even peed on herself
on the +6 reading. I haven't done anymore since.

Now I am thinking we should back off a little and maybe I should just try every 3 hrs , instead of every hour.... at least until we get numbers to be
nervous about being too low ( which as I understand it will be when dosage gets higher ( IF we have to go up and up and up) and that would be weeks away
from now. I get the go slow.

Tomorrow I plan on only doing the pre-shot, the 6 hr after hot and the pre evening shot just to be sure we are getting a drop.

I think we started at a higher number today because of the furr shot last night and the stress of the morning with so many unsuccessful pricks.

Anybody think differently?

Yes, I think you should hold off on the curve until you and your kitty are comfortable with the testing. The most important numbers at the beginning are the preshots and nadir (5-6 hours or so after the shot). You can do a curve when you get settled in.

Have you held your ear for a few seconds after the poke to minimize bruising? You can also use Neosporin with pain relief on her ear.

Are you warming her ear before you poke it? Some folks use rice socks warmed in the microwave, but I've always just rubbed it a bit with my finger before sticks. Also, if you're using a lancet pen device, it helps if you just hold it in place for a second, or two, after the poke. You also want to use the thicker lancet needle in the beginning (which is smaller in number...like 26 gauge...as opposed to ultra-thin 30 gauge). Shadow's ears need to "learn" to bleed for you, and they will, with practice & time. By not testing...her ears are not learning! Be cool, stay in school. :-D
