I'm shocked that her numbers are low this morning after having to "mess up" her times this weekend. Sat/Sun night numbers were both were 3-4 hours after she ate.

As i mentioned in previous post I go to my Mom's on Saturday at noon and don't get home until 10:30pm. Here's the breakdown on times...

- 11/9 - 8:47a after meal; p.m. 10:40p approx 4 hrs after meal
- 11/10 - 10:27a appros 2 hrs after meal; 10:00p approx 4 hrs after meal

188 this morning after no insulin last night...hope it doesn't backfire tonight

I guess if all goes well I may stick w/these times for the weekends unless someone has another suggestion...

Will you be around today? If so, I'd try to see if the number rises close to 200 and give just a drop of insulin (literally a drop). If you can keep her below 250 overall, there is a greater chance of her pancreas healing.

The next time you get a number like 188, wait 20 minutes without feeding and retest. If she is rising and nearer 200, shoot a drop or two, as long as you can monitor at least near nadir.

I really think U100 needles and mini doses are in your future.

Thanks Sue - I'm at work today so can't check her. I thought the same thing this morning and wondered if she was going up during the day and then back down. I think I'll plan to do a curve or mini-curve this Sunday just to see what's she's doing

Also, I bought a ten pack of the U-100's but haven't used them yet. I know the dose numbers are different but the actual amount that's in the syringe should be the same - when I drew the empty syringe for each it looked like there would be more insulin in the U-100 than the U-40's (using Missy's conversion table). I got nervous and just used the U-40's  It's not that I don't know what I'm giving her on the U-40's I just have trouble translating to my posts when it's not a full unit.

The U-40's I have are "Covidien 1/2 ml (29G x 1/2")" and the U-100 I bought are "BD Ultra Fine II 3/10cc, 30u". I want to use the U-100 because they have the short needle which would be much better for PJ. AAAAGGGHH - I'm so paranoid!

Okay - thanks so much Sue. Yeah, i thought about the 100's being slimmer but just couldn't tell for sure - I'll bite the bullet and use the U-100 tonight :? I'm hoping the shorter needle will be better for PJ since I have trouble getting a lot of skin on her anywhere because she's such a tiny thing. It's a shame she's not normal-to-plump like my other kitties....

I gave a shot in her flank on Saturday and she hissed and growled at me  Hey  just thought maybe that's why her numbers were better since maybe she absorbed it better?

Paula,

Looks like your Saturday plan worked out pretty well. You are doing a wonderful job.

I know it is difficult to eyeball tiny amounts using the U-40's, that's why I use U-100's with conversion chart for Rumpelteazer. And yes, it does look like more in the U-100's because they are slimmer...like Sue said.

If you don't mind 'wasting' one of each...or at least one of the U-100's...you can use one of PJs old U-40's....try this test to see the difference:
Use water or a colored liquid and draw up a "test" ProZinc dose of 1.0 unit in the U-40 (this should be easy) ... now draw up 2.5 unit (per conversions chart) in the U-100.
When you look at them like this, you will have an idea of how each one looks....same dose----different syringe type.
I love visuals.
I hope this little test will make you more comfortable using the U-100 with conversion chart.

When you start using the U-100's, be sure to use the U-40 dose info on your ss and in your posts. Since most ProZinc members use U-40's, it will not confuse them if they look at your info.
The U-100 unit number is just for your actual/personal dosing needs.

BTW...I agree with Sue on her posts below. She has been my 'mentor' and I think I am starting to think pretty much like her. Thank You Sue! :-D

Thanks for the "visual" idea...I had thought about that doing that but wasn't sure exactly how...although at the time my brain was fried.

I think the time thing this weekend did pretty well too, except if she had been high last night not sure how I would have given her a dose of insulin and then more at 6:30a if she needed it then as well. Hopefully she'll stay low and be OTJ soon ANTI-JINX!.

I wonder why suddenly she started with this again after 2004 for only 8 months. Oh, I know...she's a CAT!
