Okay, a little upset...received the new Glucocard meter/strips yesterday. Last night I did control which was 156 (mid-range) then tested...

1/16/14 PMPS
7:00p Glucocard - 303 (WHAT!) :o
tested w/TrueResult - 163  (140 points difference)

9:30p Glucocard - 278,
TrueR 165 (113 difference)

1/17/14 AMPS
Glucocard - 234
TrueResult - 170 (64 difference)

Does this sound right? I was expecting "some" difference but the 7p was 140 point higher! Seems like I'm starting all over w/her....

Darn, I was hoping it wouldn't be a big difference but I knew it had been for others.

ReliOn seems to be the meter of choice. Easiest to buy from Walmart but also available under another name elsewhere if you won't go to Walmart like me. ) BJ knows the other name. Other than that, anything but meters with Safe or True in the name. It will mean more expensive strips (ReliOn has the cheapest strips) but we did get great deals on Ebay. We used the PrecisionXtra but wouldn't have been able to afford the strips without Ebay.

Discouraging, but not the end of the word, Paula. The numbers aren't terribly high and we can just get a little more aggressive with dosing.

The Glucocard is the generic of Relion - I ordered through American Diabetes Wholesale.

I guess right now I just feel like which one is correct? Although I certainly don't have much faith in the TrueResult w/all the test strip errors I've been getting since I started using it. I just worry what if she isn't that high and I increase the dose - I don't want her to hypo and I'm not home during the week. nailbite_smile

I guess I should up her to .6u tomorrow and test her a few times before I leave @12:30 and depending on her numbers possibly up to .7u. I gave her a .5u this morning...

I think tonight I'll test from both on myself and see what I get and I'll test myself tomorrow on my Mom's meter just for the heck of it - not sure what brand her meter is but just curious. I'm gonna have some sore fingertips :?

What a bummer...she's back into the yellow's now

Testing it on yourself and Mom is a great idea. I am guessing the Glucocard is the more accurate. (sorry I didn't get that - should have remembered.)

It would be good to increase slowly when you will be around, see what that dose does and then you'll have a baseline.

Thanks Sue - I'll start this weekend seeing what she does. Also, I have got to try and start pricking her left her as her right one is getting some scar tissue on it. I've tried a couple times and it's so hard as I'm right handed - it's like I'm trying to eat w/my elbows or something

Go with the Glucocard numbers. Many of us use the Confirm/Glucocard 01 and have been able to monitor our cats well using it.

How are things going the last few days Paula? Haven't seen any posts from you.

Rumpelt's mom asked me to send you some patience pants several days ago, but I messed up and forgot to do this.

Don't get discouraged with the difference in numbers. It happens and you take a few deep breaths, yell and scream if you need to and then pick up with the new meter and start dosing from there. Bummer that the True meter was giving you lower numbers than the Arkray meter is giving you. We do find those Arkray meters to be reliable.

I use the Relion Confirm myself for testing. It's the Walmart branded equivalent of the Arkray Glucocard 01 you are using now.

Sending you some {{{{{ hugs}}}}} for both you and your sweet little girl PJ and some words of encouragement and some patience pants to cheer you up. It will get better and you will get PJ feeling better with the help of the wonderful folks here on the PZI forum.

I thought these rainbow jeans would be appropriate to send to you, especially since you have such a wide range of BG readings with the meters.

Hang in there. Remember that it's not all about the numbers. How PJ feels, or the 5 P's (peeing, pooping, playing, preening, purring) and her appetite are important too. How is PJ doing with those 5 P's today? Is her appetite good? Ravenous still? Slowing down a bit in how much she eats?

Sorry - didn't address the 5 P's - she seems to feel fine, preens herself, pooping and peeing normal (although w/5 other cats in the house it's hard to tell, but I don't see her going to the box excessively when I'm home). Her appetite is still pretty ravenous - before I always had to coax her to her a tablespoon of food. Now she eats at least 2 and still wants more!
