141 AMPS, giving .2 units. I found this note I saved from someone (Rachel or Djamila?) that shows this suggestion:
135+ give 0.2
120-135 give 0.1
NS under 120
Gonna try to stick with this and see what happens. I'm wondering if hes bouncing a bit as well as his eating behavior this am was similar to remission. So I'll be doing lots of midday testing on my long weekend!
 
Errr, first test was 208 which shocked me, but I also knew I didn't get as much blood as usual. Tested again, got 131. Ugh, did a third and got 210. Averaged the 208 and 131, so PMPS was 169, gave .2 units. I hate when that happens!
 
Well, I slept at a friend's so I didn't get any tests. However, I got home, just tested and got 271. Pita ate his treats but is now sitting on my lap while his brother eats breakfast. He doesn't seem very interested in the food. This has never happened and I'm not quite sure what to do. I'm very hesitant to give .2 units right now and part of me wants to just NS. Well, if he doesn't eat, then I can't shoot anyway. :( I'm a bit scared and just confused. Oh Pita...
 
Sh*t! Hes now throwing up his treats!! Ok, so to recap. He received .2 units of insulin last night at 7:30. I tested when I got home (25 mins ago) and AMPS was 271 which is very high for him. He watched his brother eat with no interest and instead layed on my lap. He got off, walked into the bedroom and threw up the treats from testing. He's now trying to 'cover' the wet food which is what he usually does after he eats. I'm definitely no shooting because he hasn't eaten and had thrown up. Both are things that have never happened since we were diagnosed. I'm thinking he may have gone too low last night and I didn't catch it? I'm definitely nervous :blackeye:

Hard to say. No shot is a good idea. The high BG might a reflection of him feeling ill. Is he showing signs of nausea like licking his lips. No appetite, nausea and vomiting can be signs of pancreatitis. Keep a close eye on him, maybe try tempting him with other foods like plain meat and broth baby food. It's possible he went too low last night and that has made him feel unwell.

Thanks Kris. We're now snuggling on the bed and he's purring up a storm. No other signs of feeling sick. Just the lack of appetite and the one throwing up episode. If he weren't on insulin I'd chalk it up to just an upset tummy. But of course it's a bit more complicated now! I was wondering if I could try some of the gravy food I have for hypos, but I'm not sure if that's too high carb..?
 
It's also possible that he's feeling unwell because his BG is so much higher than he's used to at this point. Which means that a small dose might make him feel better. The obvious risk though is if he starts to come down and still won't eat.
I would hold off on the gravy food, especially if he's not getting insulin. It can cause a little tummy upset when they aren't used to it, aside from raising his BG even higher. Do you have any plain chicken you could cook up for him? or give him?

Good point, Djamila. Yes, hold off on the gravy. I don't give it to Teasel when he's too low because it doesn't agree with him.

He actually hates people food-meats included. I'll put out his regular food again in a little bit (had to remove it because Brat just kept eating it). I know this may not be a sign of being okay, but he's posing/sleeping on the bed just like he always does. This might make me a horrible parent but I'm going to try to go to the gym for 9am. I'll put his regular food in front of him before I leave to see if he'll eat. I'm hoping/praying it was just a weird blip. But I'll also see what happens the rat of the day because I plan to test more. Ugh, thanks guys. So stressful!
 
Yeah, Sam won't eat chicken either. Or even tuna for that matter. Weird cats. He will eat baby food though, so I keep some of that on hand for when he gets an upset stomach. You just have to make sure that it's all chicken or turkey or whatever, with no onion or other additives in it.

I don't think you're a bad cat mama if you leave for a bit to workout. Can you lock him (and a litter box) in a bedroom so Brat doesn't eat his food while you're gone? That way you'll know if Pita ate anything. Sending tummy healing vines to Pita! I hope it was just one of those things and he feels better now!

Update: put him in front of food bowl. He sniffed it but walked away and is now outside in his catio. I'll test when I'm home, see if he'll eat and keep an eye on his general behavior. ::Big sigh::
 
If you have ketone strips, it would be worth trying to get a test. It's unlikely at Pita's general numbers, but we've seen so much of it recently....

Gah, I'll do my best when I'm home. I've actually never tried and he just doesn't pee too often! I'll see what we can do :bookworm:
 
251 @ +4.25, threw up a tiny bit of treats a few minutes after. I put his food back down and he ate, now he's under the catio. So I'll see what happens from here :confused:
 
It's still very early but I'm trying to figure out what to shoot for tonight assuming that he eats. The .1 for 120-135 and .2 for 135+?....
 
You know your cat best, but I think whenever a cat changes his behaviour and won't eat, it's time to take him to the vet. That's what happened with Chloe a couple days ago. I took her to emergency and they did some tests. I paid $30 to leave her (monitored) there while I went to work. They called me 3 hours later and she was eating normally. They didn't find anything wrong and gave me a few cans of Hills I/D Digestive Care, so I guess it was just an upset tummy.

I agree but he has eaten now and hasn't thrown up since, so I'm monitoring for now. I'm planning to do another test soon and will see if he eats his midday snack later. Thanks!

Have you changed his cat food brand lately? They get upset tummies if you don't do it gradually. Glad he's eating.
 
He jumped off the bed and went to his food bowl (empty) so I closed Brat in the bedroom and just gave Pita some wet (and water/as usual) and he's gobbling it up right now. I'm hoping he keeps it all down and will plan a test for around 2pm or so. Fingers crossed everyone!

I always have to put Chico outside or in another room when I feed Chloe or he'll push her away. Chloe is more relaxed when the other cats aren't nearby.
 
80 PMPS. No shot tonight either. He's been eating normally since the incident this morning. I'm kicking myself for not getting any tests last night but my best guess is that he dropped way too low, bounced and then felt crummy this morning.
I'm going to pay attention to how he acts around feeding time as well. When he's in more regulated numbers, he waits for Brat to eat first then goes. When his numbers are higher he pushes right in with him. I know that's not a science, because there have been higher numbers when he's waited, but maybe that's what I need to pay attention to. Maybe not shoot or at least lower the dose if his behavior is 'normal' during feeding times. Sorry for the ramble, just trying to make some sense for myself!
 
159 PMPS, giving .1 units. Will test before bed tonight! I work later every day this week so I'm able to do an extra test or two in the am as well.
 
Vet appt went well for both boys today! She said she's glad he's doing well and his weight was exactly what it was when she met him. She said that's the true sign of good regulation- maintained or weight gain. So yay Pita! On that note, 6 more days to move...:nailbiting::)
 
Just wanted to get some input on this. I'll be traveling with all of Pita's insulin/supplies. Have a note and prescription to bring to the airport and from what I've read, there shouldn't be a problem. My big question though, is traveling with the ProZinc. I was thinking of wrapping the bottle itself in tinfoil to keep it cold then wrap the box in bubble wrap. It will be kept on me at all times and should remain upright nearly the whole time. Just looking for any other suggestions?! Thanks!
 
Hmmm...what you're thinking of sounds good to me. I can't think of a better way to travel with the insulin, but if I have any brainstorms, I'll let you know.
