Good morning. So my trying to figure out insulin after being in range all day and then having low numbers of like 100-140 at time of insulin. Last night I tried just 1U if glargine when he was at 219 but that only held him at 320 for like 2 hours then the shot like a rocket.
so this is where I need help. Do I give 3 units this morning.. he is due in 20 minutes and is riding high of 400 +. I’m not worried about the 3 at this high of numbers. But with him going into range and getting those blue and green numbers.. and I know insulin works better the more you keep your sugars in range… but is there a guid book on insulin amounts at certain sugars… he always just drops in the morning I see it about 1 hour after injection. Just some of his drops have been huge.. and I work at 12 hour today. I have a neighbor coming over to scan him every few hours and will to come every 15 minutes if needed.
but im totally new to this in range numbers. I like them but it brought a whole new list of questions. I do believe 3U is what he needed to get his sugars into range. But once he gets down and stays down I don’t know what to do. I’m just slowly giving like .25-.5 and increasing up with each failed night like on the 28th I did just .5 not enough. Then I thought .75-1U and he was bouncing too hard to have that do anything really. (Is the right in a major bounce that is what will happen.. it seems insulin doesn’t work) any support helps.
we also are officially making a hypo Kit. With treats and HC food.. never had to cause he never got into low range. But go pika go! We have seen improvements with his adventures more often into the green/blue
but thank you all again for your advice and support.
