Yesterday's .. or several days ago...
First things first... I am soooo sorry guys! I always feel guilty missing a day's post and it seems I have not been to the board in several! Work is a mess right now with one of my managers down, which leaves 2 of us on board. One of us has to be in the store at all times. Needless to say, I have not had much free time. Classes also started back up this week and they are big ones. Sleep has been about 3 hours a night... But, we are here! Pig and I have missed everyone these past few days!
Revelations... Well, I am wondering if I am still over feeding. @Wendy&Neko this correlation is undeniable now. His numbers went down when he came off raw, but as soon as I started giving it again they started to climb. I do not think that it is the raw, per-say, but something associated with it.
To begin, I am a freaking dunce. Ugh!! So, I have been going through this complicated process to blend and freeze Pig's raw into these perfectly portioned meals based off the idea that 1tbs = .5oz of raw meat. Well, when he hit a pink today I really started to evaluate my plans... And that is when the biggest DUH! moment of this whole think hit me. There are 24oz of food in one RC container. Between my 2 ice-cube trays there are 28 compartments. I can neatly fill 24 of those compartments with 1 container of RC, no extras or shortages. What does this mean? Well, apparently something far to obvious for my overworked brain to conceive.. This means that each meat-cube is precisley 1oz of raw meat, just like feline-nutrition.org said it was. Why did this not occur to me?? How in the flipping world did this just fly right past my brain? I had been thinking of canned measurements so in that world 1tbs canned food blended with water = .5oz of actual food. Now in the RC world. So... He had been getting 1oz of RC at BID and +3, +6, +9 for a grand total of 8oz of food in 24 hours!

That is way more than he needs!
Moved his meals to equal about 5.5 oz a day and we will see if this slowly crests those #s down a bit. I am not positive this is it, though. The good thing is this, though, that even given the larger daily amounts he handled it beautifully and did not constipate even once! No swollen bladder! It is a bit freaky to see how little he defecates on the RC, but I know this is normal.
And on that note... Despite the obvious rise in BG, I plan to continue the raw for a few reasons. Again, the other benefits are enormous and his difference in behaviors is undeniable. He just feels better. I do not think it is the RC, exactly. I do think his system is reacting in someway. I have been doing a lot of reading into IBD and the basic premise when making changes is to do them very slowly and hold them for a while, because kitty will react regardless. I think that is a bit of what all of this is. His system is just so sensitive and his gut flora is not built properly yet and all of this effects his numbers. There is something there, I am just not entirely positive on what, exactly, just yet.
Other than that, all is really well. He is maintaining digestive stability in the sense that he is peeing and pooping normally (even had another semi-formed poo, but I am staying my hand at posting the pic
), his appetite is ravenous, and he is acting as if he feels better! I do notice some discomfort after giving the 1/4 tab probiotic, but that is to be expected. Even I get cramps when I take a lot of those... It all must be done in very slow steps..
