I think you are. I'd keep getting mid cycles whenever you can, and keep increasing as necessary. I think she probably needs more insulin, but small steady increases are definitely better for those bouncy kitties.

I just don't understand why the sudden surge? She seems fine though.

It may not really be a sudden surge. The insulin wears off earlier in the cycle if it's not enough insulin for the cat's current need, so most likely it's just that the insulin wore off between +8 and +10 for that cycle. The 434 (+10) and 409 (+12) are essentially the same number because of meter variation. Hopefully as you do some little increases and test as you can, you'll get her into some better numbers.
