She's doing good. Playing with my laces after I took my shoes off as always. Asking for and receiving treats after her dinner. Laying in the sun as I brush her. High number and all she acts the same.

Well I just was told by my neighbor that a grey tabby was hanging out in front of my door 30 minutes ago. I saw him or her 2 weeks ago and put food out for them and then the snow hit. But it's nice out so maybe the tabby has been paying Phoebe daily visits and getting her anped up? Maybe BoBo sent it? ❤

Hi Eric - you certainly had two big kitties 3 years ago - I do hope you celebrated Bobo's birthday with thoughts of love and comfort and gratefulness that you shared your life with such a sweet loving kitty.
I'm just going to bring this up as something to think about - maybe you have already. Phoebe's been on Prozinc for 9 months now - it may be time to think about switching to Lantus. I was in the same boat with Murphy and I'm glad I switched to a depot insulin - I like the idea that there is always insulin on board - it mellows out the large swings

As for Lantus I really don't know much about it? Cost? If I was to switch I think I need too use all of my Prozinc up first since I'm currently on an extremely tight budget. What kind of results did you get with Murphy after the switch? Is he off insulin completely now?

Lantus is a depot insulin and works differently. There's a lot of good info on the L&L forum in the stickies if you want to go read more. It's very expensive in the US so many users order it from a Canadian pharmacy in Vancouver, Marks Marine Pharmacy. For only a little more than what your single vial of ProZinc costs, you can get 5 Lantus "pens" which is enough insulin for up to a year, depending on your kitty's dose. It's more concentrated than ProZinc. Those pens, stored properly unopened in the fridge, are good until their expiry date which is often 2 years down the line.

I switched Teasel from ProZinc to Lantus 2 months ago and he's still bouncy but doing better.

 

Kris is right - you can also get some for a good price in the "supply closet" forum on this website
basically, you may not see the big swings every day - you may get more of a smooth curve
@Bobbie And Bubba also switched from Prozinc with great results

Hi Eric, yes we made the switch and I was happy with the results. I have said this before on other 's post who are switching but here is why I like Lantus.

~ There is a protocol to follow. I like if the numbers are here , this is what you do. I NEVER got the hang of a sliding scale with ProZinc.
~ Also, Lantus is longer lasting and more gentle that ProZinc. Prozinc curve is a smile. With Lantus, when you get regulated, it is a straighter line.

I understand you want to use up the ProZinc you have first. As far a cost, I would say they are c comparable. ProZinc uses U 40 syringes and Lantus uses U100 syringes and in the end about the same price. I get my U 100 syringes from Walmart and they are about 13 bucks for 100 syringes. You could check out the Supply Closet to see if any is up for grabs. A guy named Alan often post there and I bought some from him at a really good price. Also there is Marks Marine Pharmacy in Canada and when you are ready, let me know and I will give you the link. Making dinner right now.

When you are ready to make the switch, post in the Lantus/ Levemir forum a few day before to get dosing advice.
