Phoebe Squeak update after visit to doctor

Hi, I'm very nervous about going out -- I live in NYC -- but Phoebe Squeak has some sort of nail infection so she needs to see a doctor. I hope it's something simple that can be treated with ointment or something -- fingers and paws crossed. She has gunk on her nails on both front paws and she's lifting her right front paw so I know it hurts. I wonder if it's at all related to her diabetes.
Wish us luck! I'll report back later today.
Happy Friday!

Hey J.J. stay safe out there ,I'm right next door to you New Jersey, you know this already, mask and gloves, I hope Phoebe gets everything taken care of, poor baby, let us know what happens, stay safe:cat:
Howdy Neighbor! Yes, I will wear a mask & gloves--thanks for the reminder. I'll write again when we get back. We appreciate your good wishes. You stay safe too!

Thanks for all the support & vetty vines!
We just got back from the animal hospital. Phoebe Squeak has an infection in 2 nails -- one on a front paw & one on a back paw. They know it's at least bacterial and may be fungal as well. They are running cultures to see what they can learn. They also did some blood work. They sent me home with Clavamox and a paw soak (wish me luck with that!)
I'm supposed to bring her in again in 2 weeks and if it's not better they said Phoebe Squeak might need to see the dermatologist at her next appointment.

It was such a strange experience -- they only let 1 person into the lobby at a time to check in. Then you & your pet go back out & wait for someone to come & get your pet and then the doctor calls you on your cell. They have tents set up outside in the parking lot and people wait 6 feet apart from each other. The new normal for now, I guess. I'm grateful I was able to get her seen.

Happy they are figuring it out with cultures! Good luck with the paw soak! We were able to do it with our Maine Coon years ago but she wasn’t thrilled about it!

That’s nice that you were able to go in. Most clinics aren’t allowing anyone into the facilities at all. I had to take Tomlin for bloodwork and had to stay in the car the entire time! Even med pick up, you call, pay, wait in your car and then a tech drops it outside underneath a sign “Medications” and once they go back inside, you can leave your car and get your medication that has been bagged up!!

Hope the paws feel better! Definitely curious as to what is the cause.

I'm glad they figured out what is going on. I hope the infection clears up quickly and the paw soak helps. I had a civvie that had a nail grow into her paw and had to soak her paw for 5 minutes a day in Epsom Salt. I figured she'd never let me do it, but she did really well. I put a bowl on the floor and sat behind her and held her paw in the water and petted her with my other hand the whole time while talking to her. I hope Phoebe Squeak cooperates. Sending prayers.

Thanks, Carla. I think I might be able to do what you did with her front paw, but not so sure about the back one. I'll give it my best shot. Thanks for the advice.

It sounds like things went smoothly (and weirdly) at the vet yesterday but thank goodness you were able to get her in for a checkup. I hope between the Clavamox and the paw soak that her nails heal and she doesn’t need further treatment.

Good luck soaking her paws, I hope she doesn’t mind too much. Let us know how it’s going. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hi. Not sure if these silicone cups with opening to clean dogs paws would work......

WOW! Thanks for this great idea. Sadly, the cup wouldn't get here in time -- I'm only supposed to do the soaks for a week. I checked a couple other brands/websites once you gave me the idea, but they'd all arrive too late. I may get one anyway in case she ever needs a soak again in the future. And there's a chance I won't be able to do it without the cup, so her week of soaks may start the day it arrives. Thanks again! I'd never seen anything like that.

I hadn’t thought about it either but went looking because I have another friend who’s cat burnt his paw on a cooktop & they need to treat that paw. Is there any express shipping available? I just went on and they have a 10% off code for today so I am going to order a couple to add to my cat first aid kit! I figure it may be easier to keep a cup on a paw vs a paw in a container of water—too easy for them to just lift their leg up :banghead:!!

Wishing you luck with the soak. Maybe just maybe it won’t be too bad! Best! Maybe put some rain gear on when you do it—-LoL! Trying to add some humor—sometimes that’s all we can do in these situations !
