I've debated whether or not to share this but some of you knew her situation.
Phaedra. My son's cat.
1997-2012
almost 16 years old.
Discovered she was also diabetic when Shadow was diagnosed by testing her ear.
She changed diet too and the few times I tested her, her numbers were in the good zone.
She would not cooperate with getting a urine sample.
I suspect she was also dealing with kidney disease.
Vet did give me antibiotics for her in case she had a UTI but she was peeing on our hardware floors, even on electric power surge plug.
She spent a lot of time in the meatloaf position.
My son decided it was time about a month ago and started letting her have dry food again. ( I frowned)
Then he chickened out for about a month's worth of time.
He wasn't willing to do any treatment for her or spend money on her.
I told him it was kinder to let her go now before things got really really bad.
so this evening, a vet came over and we said Goodbye.
The moment they pronounced her gone, he left for a friends house to spend the night away. A bit of denial and certainly in pain.
My husband buried her quickly in the back yard with another beloved pet.
in about a foot of snow and really howling winds with snow flurries.
I've decided that since we are traveling in a week, I won't even put up a tree.
I'd prefer my son not associate this sad time with Christmas if I can help it at all.
Fly Free, Phaedra.
