Pettest Testing Strips Question

I am currently using the Pettest Glucose Meter by Advocate. I have noticed on the vial of strips that it gives a range for the glucose results when using the control solution. What I do not understand is that there are two ranges: Level 1, and Level 2. Different ranges are listed for these two groups. I have been all through the manual and there is no mention of Level 1 or Level 2.

I am confused. My reading fell between the range for Level 1. However, what is Level 2?

Does anyone know? I am thoroughly confused.

Some meter manufacturers provide two different test solutions. One for a low BG range and another for a higher BG range. The test solution bottle will tell you which one it is.

The bottle says that it is Level One. However, when I do a search for Pettest Control Solution, there is only one bottle shown - which is what I have.

I am still confused as to why they need two Levels if the meter works for a glucose range for 20-600.

If I use Level 1 control solution and fall within the range, and later, do a glucose test and my cat's bg level is a higher BG, does that mean I cannot trust the number if I used Level 1?

This is the one issue on which I am thoroughly confused. You would think the manual would cover it but it does not.

If you check the Advocate site, there are 3 levels of testing solutions for their human meters. There appears to only be one for the pet meter. Is this what your test solution bottle looks like? Are you sure you have the pet meter rather than one of their human meters? Maybe it's just a packaging error in which case I would call the company and ask for the correct solution.

I'm sure I have the Advocate Pettest Meter. I got it from Countryside Vet Supplies, and it has the setting to choose dog/cat, and yes, that is same bottle of solution that I have.

I don't understand why my test strips would have a level 3 listed on the bottle. The strips themselves even say Pettest so I know it's correct. I just ordered some more test strips because the others came with the kit. I will check them when they come in. It's just weird to list Level 3 but then not sell Level 3 solution.

Is there a formula you used to determine that number, or did you just get that number from experience?

I am relatively new at this. I am getting a handle on things but sometimes, something throws me for a loop.

I do not understand. The vial of test strips says that if the Control Solution is used the meter/strip is working OK if the meter display a value of 76-114

I think Larry is just saying that a test result in the neighbourhood of 100 (roughly middle of 76-114) would indicate the strip and meter are working as they should.

Oh, ok. I got it. I just want to make sure I am doing everything correctly. Thanks Larry and the kitties, Mr. Worfmen's Mom. I appreciate your time.

I can completely understand your confusion with all of this as it does seem strange. If I were you, I'd call Advocate and see if they can shed any light as to the different level numbers on the labels of the strips vs. the test solution? While someone else on the board may be using that particular, I am not aware of anyone off hand so calling the company for specific meter questions would definitely be the best way to go. When it comes to monitoring, testing, recommendations or just moral support, we can help but unless someone is familiar with your meter, we are just guessing and could end up steering you wrong and that is the last thing we'd want to do! :)

I will first wait to see what my new testing strips (ones that I just ordered) say. It is possible that the ones in the kit had the right test strips in the wrong container. If the new strips have multiple levels listed, I will call them. Thanks again for your help.

The measurement is in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL).
Most other countries use millimoles per liter (mmol/L) which equals (mg/dL) / 18.
