If you have tried to buy Sophisicat in the past week you have seen empty, or nearly empty shelves and a sign saying a new selection is coming soon. I asked the store manager about it and he knew nothing, but emailed the corporate offices to find out. It turns out that they will be renaming it to, I think, Great Choice, and he thinks they may change the can size, rise the price and eliminate the large (13 oz) can, but probably not change the formula (How much do you want to bet on that?).

If you use this food, and your store still has some, stock up! I bought 6 cases of the large cans. I hate that they may get rid of the large can since this food is fairly decent, cheap, low carb and does not have menadione sodium bisulfite complex, a synthetic Vit K that is probably toxic (see here: http://www.naturalnews.com/024244_food_pet_sodium.html. It also doesn't have dried egg product like their other food, Authority - also being revamped and disappearing from shelves.

ty for this information...know where I am going tomorrow! my girls love this brand

I got two cases of the large cans and one of the 5.5 oz. Bummer they're changing; I do hope it's just a relabeling of the same thing, but a lower-cost food is so necessary for so many!

I picked up 6 cases yesterday. I must admit, so far the ones I've opened are really stinky. No wonder The Poop inhales!

found this out the hard way today! all out of our foster Alex Olivia's flavor......we feed to her 'hubby' and our foster kitten too.....luckily I had the list with me of the other flavors.....I asked the staff and they really didn't know what was going on either - same recipes, etc....

she has been OTJ for almost a year now and doing so well, hate to change anything, but I guess we have no choice.....feels like going back to square one. I actually feed a mix of Sophistocat and Fancy Feast.....

on a nice note, in mentioning our diabetic foster the young girl working there said she and her family took in a stray that was just diagnosed with diabetes......I immediately asked if they were feeding wet and was so surprised she told me they were feeding low carb wet, looking into raw, were home testing, doing a lot of research and BEST OF ALL - KEEPING kitty :RAHCAT :RAHCAT So nice to hear about a diabetic being able to stay with their family and their family willing to do the work needed! Mom is a nurse and apparently had a diabetic cat before and wasn't armed with all this info......she's bound and determined to do things differently this time (maybe she's even reading this post : )

I cleaned out three stores and now have 150 cans sitting on my counter...at least we're moving in a month and I'll have somewhere to put them! It's so nice to have a wet food that all 4 kitties like and the diabetic one can have so I don't have to worry about her getting into their food.
Here's the link to the thread about what items are getting discontinued...looks like the majority of it is higher carb anyways...now let's just hope they keep the same recipes for the ones we use.
