petsitters and testing

If you don’t have experienced caregivers to petsit, what can you do during long trips away? I have a three week trip coming up in September. I planned it before I adopted Jackson and when I did adopt him I was told diabetic cats needed to be monitored every month or two. I feel differently now that I know more.

I found people to give injections and food, but testing is a lot for them. If we can’t get daily tests, should I try to get a mini curve on the weekends? Any thoughts?

When I had to go out of town I had my nephew come over every day the week before so he could practice doing testing and shots with saline at first and then her actual doses. He would come and I would observe and he would basically do everything and if he had questions or needed help I could be there to correct him. He was a pro by the time I went on my trip.

I’ll propose that. My husband has been trying to learn how to test for months, so I guess I’m thinking the learning curve is steep, but maybe not for everyone.

I’m not 100% sure my petsitter will agree, though, so I’m still interested in other ideas. This is my second petsitter because the first one was booked before I adopted Jackson and she couldn’t do the shots. I’m a little worried about intimidating the current petsitter. She isn’t used to needles.

My wife was also sure that she wouldn’t be able to do any of the sort but she managed and now does quite well. It took a bit for her to get up the courage but she did it. As for your husband, there are some pretty good you tube videos out there about testing in several different ways. Have him maybe watch those and see if they help. It’s kinda like Algebra where there is plenty of ways to get the answer as long as you get the correct answer lol.
