HI all,

After a whole week at 172, Petie is at 201 this morning :(

Could it be because I tested him at 11:45a when I usually test him between 5:30-7:30a?

Could it be because I gave him Friskies Special Diet yesterday?

Should I shoot?

Thanks, all
Jackie

Jackie ..... werent we going to stick to the same foods as a test? Did you decide to stop that?

Also how did the pre and post supplement test go ( remember yesterday we were going to test her before and after giving supplements?)

What flavour of the friskies special diet was it? Sliced chicken in gravy

Wendy

yes we were :(
i just get so anxious.
it was turkey and giblets dinner.
i didnt get the test yesterday. sigh. i put the dry mix back to how i had it before and i am not going to give him anymore friskies.
its just when he eats i dont see him for a few hours and then i forget to test him.
could it be i tested him at a different time than normal?
could it be because he is eating more of the wet food?

not going to give hi any of the supplements today and will do the supplement test tomorrow.

this is all so challenging for me.

Try not to get anxious. by doing this test you could see his numbers drop into normal cat range - and that would be SO much better than having to put him on insulin wouldnt it? Just try and be calm for a few days - his numbers are still nothing to worry about and this test could help immensely!

Turkey and giblets friskies dinner is fine to feed - what do you mean you put the dry mix back to normal?

Wendy

wait how are his numbers going to drop back to normal? sorry i didnt understand.

with the mix i mean i increased the amount of his old food (taste of the wild) mixed in with young again.

A normal cat is 50-130. His current blood sugar is higher than that. We want to bring it down. Any foods with carbs or sugars in them will spike his blood sugar. So we were testing removing all high carb foods from his diet. But by adding that dry food back or giving high carb supplements that is going to mess with that.

Thats why i said to try to stay consistent with the below foods since most are low carb - the only one i worry about is taste of the wild as i think thats too high carb! and we are going to test the impact of the vitamins ( "Daily Best" multi-vitamin, Gentle digest (probiotic chewable), lysium and dsm chewable) tomorrow right? Can we also stop the taste of the wild?

Wellness grain free turkey, chicken and chicken and beef (with dry food sprinkled on top)
a few licks of EVO chicken and turkey 9with dry food sprinkled on top)
Young Again zero carbs with a little bit of Taste of the Wild
White meat chicken (with dry food sprinkled on top)
a few bits of deli turkey to get his B12 pill down (i usually just get half down that way)
supplements and freeze-dried meats
also giving him "Daily Best" multi-vitamin, Gentle digest (probiotic chewable), lysium and dsm chewable

Wendy

ok. got it. you expalined that so well.

i am going to test the vitamins tomorrow yes. and i will put the mix of taste of the wild back down to almost nothing. at this point, petie will not eat the young again without the taste of the wild at least a little bit in there.

ok, i am going to test him again tonite to make sure he hasnt gone any higher.

sigh. all of this is so hard!

Let me make it easier. Feed only what is on the above list.. Except you want to reduce taste of the wild. Feed nothing else without asking me first ;)

Test him once a day except tomorrow for the experiment.

Experiment
Test
Feed the vitamins_Daily Best" multi-vitamin, Gentle digest (probiotic chewable), lysium and dsm chewable)
Test in an hour

Wendy

ok. that is easy. dont feed anything without asking first and dont change anything without asking.

got it. thank you sooo much wendy.

will let you know results of test tomorrow. and if i get him tonight will post that too.

Hi,

Just took Petie's BG - 157 - what a good kitty!

Will test again in the morning. And try and do the supplement test tomorrow, too.

Oh shoot. No I only tested after :(

I tested him this morning at 8am and he was 166. Then, after having the one treat at 4pm he was 160.

Doesn't help. We don't know how low he was before. Need you to test, feed those supplements, wait only one hour and then test again.

Sigh. Ok. Will do that in a couple of days. I don't want to give him too many. But, I will test him again in the morning.

Thanks for your patience, Wendy!! I really appreciate it.

Petie's at 148! I am so happy. Now, he is not eating very much of the Wellness. Can I try another brand? Maybe Merrick? Or the Friskies? Anything you recommend? I reaaaaaaaaaly want him to be eating wet food. I know it's only been a month since we started trying to transition, but I also don't want him to get too bored!!

Decreased appetitite may be due to adequate insulin production - no longer starving because there wasn't enough insulin.

I feed Friskies poultry pates to the 14 at my place.

Really? I didn't know that that would happen. That's really good to know. I just tested him again and he dropped to 138.

So, Friskie's pate is ok? You have 14 cats?? Wow!!

I was thinking Special Diets since his kidney levels are a little higher. But Wendy said I can't give him anything unless I check with her so I will wait for her to comment.
