Hello.

I have a wonderful diabetic cat and I need to find a pet sitter to take care of her while I am away on work. She is a complicated case and I need to find someone who is able to handle her multiple diseases.

Does anyone have any recommendations for pet sitters, vet techs or any other potential sitters in the Takoma Park, MD or Silver Spring, MD area. Would appreciate any and all help.

Thank You so much!!

Hi Martha!

May I suggest that the best pet sitter you can ever find is a vet tech at your vet's clinic. Get to know them. They work hard and don't get paid much. They are always happy to make a little money on the side and the bigest asset is that they not only know how to give shots and the right amount of insulin, but they also know the subtle signs of sickness that a regular pet sitter might miss.

All the vet techs at the clinic I use pet sit and it is a God Send and the best peace of mind I ever had when I had to travel for a while and not have to worry about Blondie. They even house sit for me while I'm gone (they all like staying at my house) so not only do I have a tech watching over all my cats but also my house is secure. I love it!

When you get a chance, just go to the clinic you use and talk to the vet techs there and if they all pet sit, pick the one you trust the most.

Several times while I was away, one of my cats got ill and they took them in with them to work in the morning so that was an added bonus!

I love my vet tech petsitters! V

I used my vet tech in CA also. It was great. It's a little harder here because my vet is further away but I will certainly ask anyway if I need to. That would be my first move also.

Hello Martha,

I live in Silver Spring too, right on the border of DC at the tip of the diamond. I have not yet found a pet sitter for Scout. She is diet controlled at the moment though so I really just need someone to come and put wet food down 1-2x a day, not a vet tech.

Please keep me posted if you find a sitter that can deal with FD. And of course if you're in a pinch I'd be glad to help out. :)

Thanks so much to all who responded. Lori, I will let you know if I find someone.

I am unable to use the vet techs at my vets office because they are too far away (in Virginia), so if anyone has suggestions for someone local, that would be so helpful.

Thanks so much!

Best,
Martha

I go to Dr. Leslie Taylor at Canal Clinic in Potomac. She is a great vet and she could probably recommend one of her techs.
