? Pet Sitter Dose? Will be gone for 4 days.

It might be a little early to ask, but I'm leaving on 2/19 and will be gone for 4 days. 2 vet technicians will be coming by twice a day to feed, give insulin, change the litterbox, etc. (Chino's vet's office is 5 minutes away from the apartment.) I want to give them all the info a week before I go, so there's time for clarification if they have any questions. I'm not asking for an exact dose at this point, but would appreciate some guidelines... Here are some questions that I have:

• How do you decide on the no-shoot number?
• What about the give MC and shoot number?
• The give HC and shoot number?

I'm assuming it's better to give HC and insulin than to skip the dose, as long as it can be done safely... please correct me if I'm wrong. My parents live nearby and my dad is willing to check in on them during the day (my mom is allergic) but he's not comfortable testing, and I'm more concerned about the PM cycle.

Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Generally what we suggest is dropping the dose a cycle or two before you leave and having the sitter shoot the reduced dose....it's better that the BG runs a little higher than the alternative....especially because most cats don't eat as well when a "stranger" is around and their lifestyle is disrupted

We also take into consideration that it's easier for a petsitter to draw a dose that's "on the line".

A no shoot number is based on Chino's patterns. So far he hadn't gone lowish enough times to figure out what that pattern is, other than it happens a cycle or two after he's breaking a bounce down from black. Ditto for MC and HC. So far my only suggestion would be to use an autofeeder, and give him a good meal around +3.5 to +4, cause if he's going to dive, it seems to start around then.

Unfortunately, that's still not an option In mid-December, we moved into an ant-infested apartment. I thought most of the ants were finally gone, but it looks like they've just migrated from the kitchen sink to the cats' water bowl.
