I see several folks suggesting this brand, in the 5 compartment model. All the product info indicates to use it with dry food. Can I use it with wet food? Do I need to do anything special to the wet food? Ice pack, freeze it, etc? Do I need two units since I have 2 cats?

Thank you in advance!

It's a great timed feeder. For two cats you'd need two feeders; the compartments are only big enough to allow one cat at a time to feed comfortably.

You can use it with wet food. In warm conditions there's space for an ice pack under the feeder tray. Also you could pop a couple of ice cubes into some of the compartments to keep food cool or alternatively freeze portions of food and pop them into the feeder for the later feeds so that they'll have time to thaw before the feeder rotates to make them available.

I mainly want it for night feeding. The big guy eats more right now, the civvie paces herself. So I'm thinking open bowls for daytime (which work well for now). Not to be inconsiderate of my cats, but they need a little food at night and I'm not getting up at 5:00 a.m. to remove the food bowl prior to the 7:00 a.m. testing. (I have some health issues of my own that make the 5:00 a.m. scenario difficult, at least for now.) I've tried removing the bowls before I go to bed around midnight, but they seem starving in the a.m. and his amps is a bit higher since I started doing that. Hence the wish to resume offering a very early morning snack :)

He may have a bit of a problem with impaired fasting glucose (not enough basal insulin secretion between meals). If so, having regular small meals instead of two big feeds can help with this. (The pancreas produces a bolus pulse of insulin at mealtimes which may help tamp down levels for a few hours after eating.)
