We're newly diabetic, like 3wks in & progressing wonderfully with diet change. However the better he gets the more his personality changes. He's now an honery brat! Picking fights with my oldest civvie, jumping on the counter to find his treat bag (he's trained to not get on the counter!), biting brother & just today he was trying to mount the youngest which they're all fixed. I just wanna beat him! He's 12yo & has never acted like this before, he's getting to be a lil turd when he was always the laid back one. Idk what's going on but I hope it's over soon cause it's getting on my nerves! Anyone else have these changes with diabetes? If so how long did it last?

Maybe he likes feeling better? :-D Sounds like he's getting right frisky!
He might have been sick for awhile before he was diagnosed...

Not with diabetes but I have seen this with hyperthyroidism. Is he sleeping less or acting more "amped up" in general? Have you had bloodwork run recently?

If he was always laid back before, the personality change might be a clue that there's something else going on.

Note: Chip was sometimes grumpier when his numbers were running high. Charlie wasn't grumpy at high numbers, but when he developed hyprtT he'd mount the other cats, jump to the top of the fridge and steal/rip open a loaf of bread, and generally be a royal pain in the backside. Does your cat seem to be feeling good or bad?

Edited to correct typos.

hello, when callie started to feel better she would pick fights with her sister and get down right mean :-x dh said oh just let them be there cats ! well I'm sorry but it pissed me off  it got better for a while and then it has started again the last couple of days , they don't do it for dh when I am gone they wait until I come home ! I don't have any answers or you just a thought ( I'm diabetic to ) and when my bs is high I get real crabby dh always say check your sh*t  just letting you know your not alone :YMHUG:

Well he seems to sleep more when he has normal - lower #'s but seems just a lil hyper with high #'s. His levels are getting pretty good right now though so he's a lil on the lazier side at the moment but it's like he just has episodes of being a brat. When I took him to the vet for the weight loss she immediately did BG & said he was diabetic. I don't think she even ran any bw. She also overdosed him with 5U of PZI & I almost lost him 1st night home so I haven't taken him back. I need to find a new vet since I don't trust her anymore. He's put all his weight back on & I don't see any other issues besides the personality. I have thyroid trouble myself so know the signs. I guess I need to get him in with a new vet soon to check him out but hopefully it goes away soon!

Well maybe Callie & Bitty should have a play date with DH's supervising :-D That's so funny your DH corelates HS with being crabby, check your s***. LOL

OMG that sucks about your experience with the vet!!! Wow, 5U??? I had the worst vet with my cat Nipper was a kitten. I took her in for her spay and she was returned to me with an obviously infected wound and a fever. I got her home and out of the carrier, took one look at her, and took her back to the vet for antibiotics. She was too sick to walk for days. That was the last time I went there!

I don't have any answers on the personality change myself but I do get super crabby if I have a hypo (or even normal range but low for me BG). So far I haven't noticed anything different about Scout except when she's high she seems to be very lethargic and just wants to lie around. Keep us posted and get a new vet!

Simba hypod at 4 U and had only 0.8 in bg when I caught him. He came around fine after me stuffing him full of dextrose, but got brain damages as a result of the whole incident.

He has always been a rascal though, wrestling down civvie Gustav who is both older and bigger than Simba, and running around and jumping up on window shelves, drawers etc. So that hasn't changed. But he has taken up a new love thing of late. He knows what kiss is, and can kiss (when he wants) and I usually beep on hís little nose, putting my finger on it and saying beep beep. I think he have learned from that, and now in the nights when he comes and wants to cuddle, he beeps MY nose, but by BITING it, and he bites really hard. Once his teeth went through the skin so it started to bleed.

Also, one completely new thing he took up after getting his diabetes 5 years ago, was .... paper shredding. He has eaten on all my books, on papers, and he does that at certain hours, first around his insulin times (yep, he knows the clock) and then when I was sleeping and he wanted me to wake up.
Here he is in his paper shredding action http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjUk6DpE ... ature=plcp
He looks totally innocent too :-)

He is my special guy :-)
