Hardey is getting finicky again. I'm pretty sure it's the nausea again. I have seen that some of you use pepcid for nausea... how much should I give a 16 pound cat? How often can I give it? Is there a specific type I am looking for in the store?

It needs to be Pepcid AC , none of the other variations are good for kitty.

It's the original strength. Famotidine tablets 10 mg
you give 1/8 of a tablet.
wait 1/2 an hour and offer food....
You can give it twice a day.

Most users give 2.5 mg of Famotidine twice daily. Famotidine is not really an anti-nausea med. It reduces the production of stomach acid. Anti-nausea meds are the prescription CERENIA® (maropitant citrate) and ONDANSETRON (Zofran)

Just picked up some from grocery store. What a pain to break into 8 pieces! We'll see if it works. :)

Larry - will it help with the nausea caused by IBD or should I get prescription from vet?

My 5 lb Persian was getting 1/4 of a 10 mg tablet twice a day for excess stomach acid related to end stage kidney failure. You may need more than 1/8 of a tablet. I used a pill cutter you can buy at any drugstore or Walmart/Target/Grocery store.

The usual dose is 1/4th of a 10mg tablet, or 1/8th of a 20mg "extra strength" tablet.

That's why we suggest you get the 10mg tablets. Easier to make 1/4ths than 1/8ths.

If you get Pepcid AC (10mg) and use a pill cutter - you can cut the pills in fourths.

I stick the piece in a dropper with a little bit of water and shake it until it dissolves and squirt it in the side of the mouth instead of trying to send it down the throat or putting in food. As Rhiannon said, you should give it a half hour before meds or food.

Thanks for all the help. So far, it's been going down pretty easy. I've been using a small bit of food to hide it in. Not sure if it's helping or not, but we'll see.
