Hi guys. I see many of you use Pepcid. Long ago, my doctor said use 5 mg of Pepcid for the cat. Today he said .5. I wonder if he was just busy? Anybody got any input on how much you give your cats of Pepcid when that's necessary?

We give 1/4 of a 10 mg pill to our CKD cat every day - so 2.5 mg. I used the same dose for Rosa the one day she wasn't feeling good as that seems to be the dose a lot of people use. It does have to be the Pepcid AC though - that's the only one that's safe for cats. :)

Thank you @manxcat419 ! That's exactly what I wanted to know!

Back in the day, I'd bought the generic of the same med- and checked the inactive ingredients... when sugar wasn't an issue - of course, the one I got is EXACTLY the same, except it has polydextrose! Got to go back out the the drugstore.

This saved me - there was NO POSSIBLE WAY to find any .5 dosage without paying a compounding pharmacy! Not even baby doses! He must have been just too busy on a Saturday.

No problem - fairly easy one for me to answer as I get to cut the pills up a couple of times a week! ;)

I don't see polydextrose listed anywhere on the branded Pepcid AC bottle, though they don't seem to list the full ingredients, just the famotidine as the active ingredient and of course we've long since thrown out the box that the bottle came in. And no, I don't think there's any way of getting a smaller dose - cutting those pills into 4 is tough enough...I'm not sure cutting them any further would be possible!

I found the list really ingredients. They're very simple. No sugars. I'm going to have to buy the real Pepcid AC. First I'm trying to see if the Reglan works maybe two days on that and then we'll see. Don't want to split the focus.

That's good to know - no sugars is definitely a bonus to paying the extra for the brand name. I'm glad now that we paid the extra for the branded ones for Shadow - it means I don't have to worry if Rosa does need a dose on occasion. And I agree, one change at a time is the easiest way to figure out what's working and what isn't. :)

You will not find sorbitol in the list of ingredients since sorbitol is in the polyglucose. Ot it has polyglucose listed then the polyglucose contains some sorbitol

OH! The polyglucose was in the generic, but I didn't see ANY in the real Pepcid AC listing. Thank you for the clarification. I read through the whole polydextrose article. Although normally, I wouldn't be concerned with that little 25% solubility, with all Eegie's issues, it seems to make sense to still avoid it - although it's good to know it's not that bad. I'd use it if it was the only added medical glucose I was having to add.

I'm going to avoid the generic until I can get to the store today- he's taking several other meds with high glycemic index ingredients for his IBD symptoms - and there are no alternatives (Pfizer makes what they want, how they want!) Thank you!!!
At least, he neither regurgitated nor vomited today!!! Now... to get his defecation under control.
