Hey everyone,

The last couple of days, Peeka has taken a few steps back in her progress. Firstly, her stool habits. It’s not uncommon for her to have some loose stool, it’s typically fixed with fortiflora. I had ran out and just restarted her yesterday evening on it. But she will track it around the house due to her neuropathy. This afternoon while rocking our daughter, my wife saw Peeka come into the nursery, squat in the corner, and have loose stool. I’m hopeful the fortiflora will assist with this, just given more time.

the other thing is Peeka had a fair amount of urine on our couch. The covers can be cleaned, but it’s not like her to have an accident like this, especially recently. Wondering if anyone has some advice on what to do from here? It’s been a while since we’ve had setbacks, and I’m hoping to get back on track.

Thanks!

One quick item to add, even before her diagnosis, Peeka would pee on clothes, towels, you name it. We would always have to make sure our laundry rooms were closed, otherwise she would climb into the hampers and urinate on them. Not sure if that plays into this equation or not, I just don’t want there to be underlying health issues.

Have you had her urine tested for a UTI?

Are you able to draw a thick line through the SS when you swapped over to Prozinc please.

are you following any dosing method? You have held the dose of 3 units for months.
I am not a Prozinc user so will tag @Deb & Wink.
I would also try and get some more tests in during the cycles. Unless you are getting a test in during every cycle you have no idea how the insulin is working.
Peeka may need an adjustment in the dose....but first you need to do more testing so we can see how the dose is working.

I started a new spreadsheet earlier this year, I need to link it on here. We have been doing SLGS, 3u for Peeka was working for a while until it recently wasn’t. It’s been challenging trying to do regular testing with Peeka, especially with a newborn, but now that we’ve been sliding backwards, I’ll make sure to stay on it. It’s likely she could need a dose increase.

A couple of other things to consider, we changed her from Dr. Elseys chicken to Salmon due to unavailability of the chicken flavor. We also have tried a couple of different cat litters over the last month and a half until we finally settled on the one we are currently using. Not sure if that could be a catalyst for her urinating on the couch. She also came into our room early this morning around 2 am and had more loose stool, but it did look like it was starting to firm up a little more. I've decided to be more proactive about her diabetes since we got a little more relaxed recently.

The change in food would also be a good reason for the BG levels to be higher. The Dr. Elsey's chicken flavor is low carb (7-8%), but the salmon flavor is not. 13% dry matter carbs, 11% wet matter basis.

Used this calculator and the percentages from the manufacturers website, for the dry kibble.

Litter box avoidance happens for a reason. So you need to be a "detective" and try to figure out that reason.

Not able to help with the dosing at this point, since the SS is not up to date. I don't see any data after the middle of February 2021.

Created a new spreadsheet and updated the signature. Lot's of missing days, but we've been getting back on track the last couple days. Less mess around the house recently which is good. Hoping it was just a couple of one offs. The last 2 bowel movements have been more firm, and made their way into the litter. The Forti Flora is definitely helping. Going to be more diligent about her levels moving forward, it's been a strain with a newborn, but I'll be home the next 2 months and hopefully that will help things.

Peter, you do the best you can. That's all you should expect of yourself. I think that is what you have been doing, your best.

With a newborn in the house, your life must be really hectic these days.

I hope you can give yourself a break from the insanely busy life responsibilities you have right now.
It's getting nicer weather wise, so getting outside is my "go to" activity to relax and de-stress.

It's really hard to say right now, what is going on with Peeka. I'd like to see a couple more days of testing before giving you feedback. Tag me in a couple of days, and I'll try to respond when I'm on later in the evening.

Right now, it's looking like the 3U isn't enough insulin for Peeka, but not quite sure. Often those red pre-shots say "bouncing." But let's wait and see, OK?

Sounds good. I’m thinking she needs a dose increase, but I’ll wait until Monday when I have some better numbers.

I appreciate your kind words, now that I’ll be able to be just at home taking care of things around the house, I can get things more or less back in order, maybe take the baby for a stroll. The weather here in TX has been nice, except for the snow storms and occasional thunderstorms.
