Peeka 10/1 Throwing up multiple times today

Ok, picked up ketones strips. Waiting on her to have to pee atm. I did take her to her food bowl and she is munching along nicely. Normal attitude etc so far. Wife did some research and saw that the brown vomit we saw could be due to feces in the GI tract. Not 100% sure that’s what it is, but that is what we are hoping for. If she keeps this food down, I may go ahead and shoot.

What does the cat licking lips when presented food mean? I’ve seen it before but don’t know what it means. I tried giving her a little more food but she just licked her lips and wasn’t interested in any. I think I should probably just leave her be for tonight and not give her a shot? She did eat an hour ago.

She's negative for ketones. If it were me in this situation, I'd skip. (Other members may have a different view.)

As Jeanne says above, the lip smacking and walking away from food can both be signs of nausea. See the following helpful resource to help you make observations for your vet:

I agree with Jeanne's wise suggestion that Peeka see the vet ASAP so that they can assess the reason for the GI disturbance and prescribe something for the nausea so that Peeka will be able to eat properly and receive her insulin safely. I'd also suggest that if Peeka does vomit again or pass any diarrhoea that you collect some samples to bring to your vet to aid diagnosis of the problem.

Thank you Mogs, I’ll be keeping an eye on her tonight. She has been spending her evening by the water bowl, hopefully rehydrating.

Yep. Getting her to a vet to sort out the eating issue, Peter! :) I'm not being glib here, BTW: adequate insulin, calories and fluids are key to warding off ketones. If there's anything you can do to encourage her to drink well till you get to the vets tomorrow, that would be good.
