Peeing on his feet

I know this is not necessarily tied to his diabetes, but Howie has started peeing on his back feet (mostly back right one). I’ve not seen him do it, but it certainly is a surprise when I go to pick him up and his feet/foot is wet and litter is sticking to it (worse when I see him walking on my kitchen counter with said feet/foot!). I look in the box and it doesn’t look like he stepped where he peed. Any helpful ideas? I thought he was starting with some arthritis (although my vet didn’t really find anything conclusive at his last appt). I started him on Omega 3 fish oil about a month ago in case arthritis is coming on.

I would try to watch him in the litter box to see what’s going on. Does he walk stiffly? Have you noticed any changes in his behavior in terms of how he gets up on things? Does he jump straight up on things or is he now starting to use lower objects to jump up onto first before jumping to a higher place? I see he jumps to the kitchen counter with those feet!

I'd look for something orthopedic or muscle related first, he may not be limping but may be favoring one leg or knee. Is the box down a long flight of stairs?
We have 4 boxes for 5 cats and they all prefer a different depth of litter. Shallow litter means pee clumps can be harder to clean but deeper litter can be like slogging through snow for a senior. Maybe he's just plain old sore.
