Patches had much better numbers tonight

They look much better tonight than they did for the morning. Only things I changed were new meter, adding lots of water to the food and feeding less. She was eating a can to a 3/4 or a full can at both feedings. My old meter was a sidekick disposable meter and I got a reli-on prime tonight. Thinking I should do another curve later to see how it goes. She does have a bit of a runny nose and has sneezed a couple of times but I think that was more something irritated her nose.

Yes, they look much better! I woke up this morning worrying about you two. Those blacks were not good. I wonder if the first meter was not working correctly.

So, see what the number is this am and maybe post before you give insulin. Even if she bounced back up high, the numbers in general are much better than yesterday.

Sorry Sue took a nap yesterday morning and woke up with a major migraine. The meds for that always wipe me out for the day. Her numbers went back up a bit but we had a bit of a furshot incident. I got about half the shot and realized I felt liquid but she did get the other half in and her numbers still weren't a high as before. I do know that when I compared the 2 monitors once that the older one was 30 points higher than the new one. How are you today?

Sorry about the migraine. Glad Patches is doing better. Are her numbers out of the blacks and reds?

It would really help you, us and your vet if you'd have a spreadsheet to keep her numbers on. If you want, I can set one up for you. At the top of this page, click on the "1 new message"

Good job! Interesting on that late blue followed by a red three hours later. Am curious how much lower she dropped after that blue before shooting up to red.

You need to test first, then feed and shoot. Food can impact numbers and make them higher than without food. So we suggest not feeding in the two hours before you plan to test. (It's fine to give a small snack as an incentive to test, but not a full meal)

I didn't think it would matter cause I test right after she is done and she snarfs her food down like cookie monster with a chocolate chip cookie. Its no big deal for me to change and test first though might even be better cause she will think the food is a reward for testing. Question she acts like she is constantly hungry, even tried stealing some food from me tonight which is something she has never done before now. Could that be from changing her from free feeding to scheduled or something else?

She can free feed and it is really best for her pancreas. Lots of us freeze the food and leave it out to thaw. I have a great automatic feeder that I can set to feed whenever I want. When new diabetics are unregulated, their bodies are not processing food efficiently so they are hungier. It would be fine to increase her feedings or amounts by a little. Once she is regulated, she should need less.

How about sending your spreadsheet to your vet and asking if you could increase? She is definitely bouncing to higher numbers, but she still has room to drop. And those red preshots are not good. Maybe increase by .25 when you can monitor and see if it brings her numbers down a little.

I emailed the link to the vet a couple of days ago. And asked about if we should change the dose she said we could discuss it at the next appointment. It was supposed to be today but we had to reschedule for Friday because of my ride. I think she wanted to wait to she got the Fructosamine test before deciding about a change.
