Parent of Brutus Moving forward after DKA

Keep doing what you are doing. Lots of food. Don’t skip any doses of insulin.. sub q fluids. And test at least daily for ketones

LOTS OF FOOD! LOTS OF SNACKS! and you are right, no snacks 2 hours before AMPS and PMPS! You two are doing great. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

^Last thread was getting long and I still have questions of course !!!
Out of DKA, but still waiting on ultrasound results on monday k
My boy is still so scrawny (6.8lbs) any tips to try to get his weight back up ?

Am I to still be giving him low/no carb as often as he wants/asks? No snacks 2 hours before AMPS and PMPS right ?
Yes to the food, as I said on your previous thread. Don’t worry about “no carb”. I see a lot of people mentioning to feed the absolute lowest carb that you can find. Anything under 10 percent carbohydrates is very good for your cat. Do not stress out about finding zero carb food or 1 percent carb food. Many cats do well (have better BG numbers) with a few more carbs and studies on remission rates show that the remission rates are very good for cats eating 6-10 percent carbs.

Now, as to his dose… since he is no longer producing ketones, we are going to hold his 1.5 unit dose for a total of 7 days, okay? If you ever have a concern about how much to shoot, please post on the ProZinc forum and/or send me a PM to let me know you need help. I have a much better chance of seeing your post this way. If you have an urgent, time-sensitive question and are not getting a response, post here on the Feline Health forum with a ? In your thread title. We reserve the use of 911 in the thread for actual hypo situations.

Can you please try to get at least a +4 and a +6 today? That would be very helpful.

If we can’t get a little more data filled in on the spreadsheet, you will need to run a “curve” before we change the dose (nothing wrong with that, either.)
