I'll be curious what the others have to say but I would consider dropping the dose back a bit. Remember, Lantus is a depot insulin and it will take several days for the depot to be depleted.

Panzer has only had a few good cycles since 5-18 on Lantus. I've went from 0.5 units to 2units since April 30th when he started on Lantus. I want to switch him back to prozinc starting tomorrow. Should the starting dose be what it is now on Lantus? @FrostD @Suzanne & Darcy @Diane Tyler's Mom https://felinediabetes.com/FDMB/thr...ose-increase-food-switch.264440/#post-2962696
@FrostD any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking maybe start at 1 unit?

I personally hate to see you switch back to ProZinc - at least just yet, but I was interested in hearing Melissa’s thoughts on this.
Yes I was interested in what her thoughts were too. I will stick with Lantus until I get her thoughts. His shot is in a little over 3hrs & I don't think she was on for very long today/ yesterday it's almost 1am here. Shot time is 4am.

Sorry I missed this. Why do you want to switch back?

I suspect his numbers are due to whatever underlying issues he has going on, not the insulin as he did well on Lantus for a while before.

Truthfully I've never had anyone switch back. I would do something like 0.5-1U the first few cycles, but definitely monitor closely.

Your fine. Well I don't believe he has an underlying condition anymore. He is on day 3 of no mirataz on his ear & day 7 of no cerenia. He has cleaned his food bowl every feeding except when I snuck some psyllium husk in on him, then I had to put fortiflora on his food.I ordered size 5 empty capsules to put the psyllium husk in. Other than him having constipation issues off & on he's doing great with the exception of high BG #s. I will give Lantus until Friday. Friday night I will start with 0.5 units of prozinc. I will be able to monitor 5 cycles then, unless for some reason his #s start to come down before then. I guess I will be the first to switch back:cat:

Also, if going back to ProZinc, to clarify - I don't think 0.5-1U will be the dose you need. I'm just suggesting it as a starting point while Lantus depot drains. As it drains can probably increase every few days depending on numbers.

Ok how long do you think it takes the lantus depot to drain?

Size 5 capsules are very tiny but hopefully he will then be able to eat them in a pill pocket.
