One trip yesterday to the regular vet, then last nite for 3hrs at the emergency vet. They have diagnosed with pacreatitis. The ER vet wanted to keep her a few days, but my gut & wallet said no. I wasn't happy becuse they wanted to do ex-rays 1st then blood work, of course the more expensive then cheaper. The bill was over $500.

Our regular vet gave her sub-q fluids yesterday, bupenex & an apetite stim. She came home hid, then when I got home the meowing started, then the throwing up & drooling. So off to the ER vet at midnight. They ended up giving her more fluids, anti-nausia & antibiotics. They also didn't want me to let her eat for at least 24hrs. I didn't feel that was right since she hasn't eaten for a couple days already. So she has hidden all night but I know where she is at.

After only a couple hours of sleep today, I just called our regular vet & let them know what happened. They said I did the right thing for taking her in & for not leaving her. They also want me to try to get her to eat something or drink some chicken broth. Plus I get to keep an eye to make sure she is not getting too dehydrated again.

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

Sorry for the typos & rambling, very tired.

Just keep a close eye on her. Years before my diabetic cat became diabetic she got really sick one day and kept throwing up all day long, so I took her to the vet. She had pancreatitis, a very severe case of it. She was in the hospital for days and almost died. I have no idea what caused nor did the vet. But she did recover, she was on IV fluids, pain meds and I am not sure what else at the time in the vet office. It was very scary. You need to try to get her to eat something because if they don`t eat they can go into liver failure. Sometimes baby food will work in a kitty with upset stomach. Beechnut Chicken and Chicken Broth, or get some Recovery or AD from the vet and see if she will eat that. If she does not eat anything take her back to the vet.
Good luck and I hope kitty gets to feeling better.

Hi Julie
It's Patti (merlin) I hope this finds YOU doing alright. Are you giving any pepcid ac regularly. bid if you can - that will help. Terri already mentioned the baby food, broth and AD. What were you feeding before - just wondering? Sometimes boiled chicken helps if they will eat it.

If your kitty is sick for awhile - can you give subq fluids at home? I had a civie get sick with triaditis and we wound up having to do fluids for awhile. And can you give a liver support like denamarin? The GI system in a cat is set up abit different than ours. So the biliary duct and pancreas are so closely connected. They are a set up for pancreatitis and then the triaditis.

Pain meds would be worth it too. You can get bupe from your vet - compounded and give that too. That would help your kitty feel better to eat too.

I hope this helps you a little!

Thanks Terri & Patti.

I'am overwhelmed, very tired & can't even think straight. Update for now - I pulled her out of her hiding spot & tried to get her to eat some i/d food and then some chicken broth, she said no. She now is hiding in a different spot. We need to give some more antibiotics & then a bit later some more anti-nausia pills. Who would want to eat when you are given oral antibiotics, they make me ill, just think how they feel.

There is no good time for our kids to get sick, but this is the worse time of year for me. I'am now bascically working full-time retail with day off here & there. Today I was lucky & had today off. Had to do all our errands, plus go up & help my mom who is 79 go shopping & clean the bathroom.

Will keep you all posted. Just don't know what to do.

Dear Julie
It was soooo GREAT to hear from you! I'm so glad you still had my number. I realized tho I don't have yours - please can you send it to my cell phone. Also -

I forgot to mention - get some Vitamin B12 injections - you can get a whole bottle and give it to all your older civies too. It's good for their gut. It's given subq and it really helps with pancreatitis also. It's usually given weekly.

I'll look forward to hearing back from you! TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOURSELF!!!
