Pam, I just checked your SS and to see how Alley is doing. Wow, now down to one drop? That is amazing. Almost looks like he is rebounding on just that tiny amount.

Alley's spreasheet

Can you try adding a little extra taurine to his food? It comes in powder forum and has been said to help in regulating diabetes. In canned food the effectiveness is oftentimes diminished because of the cooking process. There are lots of links to support this. Here on the Tilly's Diabetes Homepage it is mentioned under number six at the bottom plus there are more links after that.

You can buy it in powder forum and mix it in his food. It is tasteless - 250mg twice a day:

Maybe it will be just the edge Alley needs to get him off insulin. :)

Thanks Pamela, never heard of that, but will try it. My last post concerned the size of the drop we were giving Alley. Now it is pin size whereas we started at rolling off the needle size. So tiny amount, cannot believe he responds. You really think he is rebounding? Seems he has always been a little higher at the PM reading. I am so happy that he is mostly in the blues and he feels better than ever. We reduced the drop on 5-31 and hoped it would settle nicely, maybe this is the magic touch we need.

Thanks again

Pam, could you put something like "3/4 drop" as the new lower dose? Otherwise it looks like no change was made. Thx :-D

I hope he sees some "greens" soon on that dose.

I don't know what you drop compares with to the doses Beau was on, but he got a lot of action out of .05u (what I call a half drop, I guess) toward the end. There were some here who questioned what I was actually dosing to get that response ("are you sure it wasn't .5u instead of .05u?" like I didn't know what I was sooting). All I can say is those people aren't here anymore......

I am going to be late for work if I try to explain, but I think he needs more, not less insulin. Maybe 2 drops, instead of 1. His numbers are fairly steady but not low enough. By evening time it's like the insulin just pooped out, resulting in 200s.

I understand the dose doesn't look like it changed and agree with you, Sheila, I need to explain. I will change the amount in the ss. I guess I didn't realize other people were actually checking on his ss as he has been doing great. The previous drop was almost rolling off the needle, whereas this drop is pin size, so we went from approx .15 to .10-- Dh does the draw, I shoot. So we just tested this with a pin and are right on it. However, sometimes the drop looks like a drop and it can be a bubble, which causes more problems. Also, I started shooting in the hip area at the same time and I think I got a fur shot yesterday morning. One drop doesn't wet the fur, so cannot tell for sure, but he literally did not move in numbers much. Consistency is so hard at this dose.

Vicky, as far as going up, I would not rule that out, but when he hits the greens he seems to get this glassy eyed look and sleeps a lot. IMO he is best in the lower blues, more active and playful. This is my cat from long ago before the dreaded N was prescribed. He is flying up the stairs and chasing poor little Gidget all over the place, she is exhausted!

As always, thanks for all the input, I guess I thought we were doing ok for a while there!

You are doing an awesome job, Pam!!!! I can't even imagine measuring out a drop and your giving less than that... @-) drinking09

Fingers and paws crossed that the taurine will be just the ticket for Alley. :YMHUG:

Oh my gosh! Just checked your spreadsheet Pam. So happy to see those blues today continue on into the PM shot - like you said in your SS, lowest PM in 15 days!

Only thing is you changed the shot location and the dose (two things at once), but whatever....something is working! :) Notice also that Alley doesn't get food spikes - at least according to the +3 spot checks. So that means the food he gets at shot time is bringing him down. See if you can get some +1 and +2 spot checks in when you can. Be interesting to see. :) Go Alley!

Hopeful, very hopeful. Guess I should not have changed dosage and shot location at the same time, since I will not be sure which one worked better than the other. Staying blue for now, fingers crossed. Mixing his EVO with Wellness chicken, he likes the variety better. Geez, that is three things I have changed! But the food mixing has been a month long change.

Marcy, interested to watch how Klinger reacts to this changed dose. Bet he settles nicely and soon. Keeping our fingers and paws crossed.

Thanks to all for your concern and encouragement.
