P didn't get his shot this morning!

I overslept this morning ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile so P didn't get his shot! Is there anything I can do? A smidge dose? I just tested him, 518 at what would usually be his +4 after a shot.
 
Hugs! You weren't thinking about changing your schedule, were you? :smile: You could shoot a full shot now, and adjust your PM shot time....you could shoot a little earlier, like +10 or +11. Or you could do a chickensh*t (a mini dose) to tide P over till next shot time. You don't want shots closer together than 8 hours apart, generally. You could hold off and shoot a little early at PM time, too.
 
I don't know what dose to do if I shot a chickensh*t shot. I can shoot full, and then gradually get back to our regular shot time....good thing spring break is this coming up week.

Shooting regular dose and trying to get your schedule back on track is probably simplest. :smile: I have done a CSD with Eddie once...I shot a 0.8 to try to aim for about an eight hour duration when my normal dose was about double that. Truth be told, it didn't really do anything. :YMSIGH: Everyone seems to do CSD's a little differently with ProZinc but from what I've seen, shooting about 1/2 the normal dose seems to be pretty common. With P's doses, though, you might even go less for a CSD...maybe just a unit or less. CSD's are kind of something to experiment with, although hopefully you don't have to experiment with them often. :-D
 
Of all the times to get so off track, I'm glad (er, not) that it was this week.

I was thinking 1 unit, if I was going to do a CSD, but I'm glad I went ahead and gave a full dose. He doesn't feel good. :cry: :cry: ohmygod_smile ohmygod_smile grr_red grr_red angry(2)_cat angry(2)_cat :cry: :cry: :cry:
 
Once you know the total daily dose normally given, it is possible to take off the number of hours worth of insulin and a pinch more for a "chickenshit dose"


Gracie runs on roughly 1.2 units per 12 hours, so her math is easy - 0.1/hour. If I want to give a token dose because I woke really late or forgot, I can base it on that knowledge specific to her.

I quickly took a look at P's spread sheet, and noticed that you have various dose amounts. Please try and be consistent with the dosing as it works better to help bring the #s under control.

I think with ProZinc it only lasts about 8 hours, and the starts to wear off, which results in higher #s at preshot time. If you find that this isn't working for you, and you want to switch to a different insulin, may I suggest trying Lantus. There are a lot of people on this board that use Lantus to control their kitty's #s, and it lasts for 12 hours instead of 8 or 9. 4 years ago, we were also using ProZinc for my kitty, Blackie, and after giving her 8 units 2x/day I finally switched her to Lantus, and a low carb diet. It does work, and it works well.

It's just something to think about if you feel you're not getting the results that you're looking for to control P's #s.

While ProZinc can be done consistently on a 12 hour basis with the exact same dose, it is much more flexible than Lantus or Levemir with timing.

It is possible to shoot early or late as there is no depot to consider. It is possible to adjust the dose based on the pre-shot once you have some data to know how it will work in the cat.

That makes so much sense about what to shoot for a CSD if I get off track with timing. Hopefully it won't happen again though!

That's why I'm a fan of ProZinc. I like the flexibility of it.
