It's been a little over a year since Ozy was diagnosed with diabetes. He is also IAA. And just recently he was diagnosed with kidney failure, a new nasty disease to learn about. He has a hard time with dehydration and constipation and then there are frequent flares of eosynophyllic granuloma. Last week he had an ultrasound which showed normal size kidneys, thickened intestine (probably IBD) and scarring on his pancreas. His pancreatitis has been quiet. That is something. He had three days of IV fluids last week and he gets subQ fluids regularly.

He is still our sweet wonderful boy. His quality of life is up and down. It is better when we can keep him hydrated and pooping. We are working hard at that.

We have a wonderful vet who makes house calls. That is much easier on him than trips to the vet. So we are doing okay.

Donaleen, good luck getting your system (to keep Ozy hydrated) down. Sending vines Ozy's way for a steady higher QOL.

How great that your vet makes house calls. I hope you can continue to work things out to keep Ozy having a good QOL for as long as possible. :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Hi Donaleen,
Thank you very much for checking in on Lucy.

I'm sorry to hear about Ozy's kidney disease.
It is hard when they have multiple conditions.
That's wonderful you vet makes house calls. That should cut down of his stress significantly.
Sending prayers his QOL stays up with fluids.

Thanks Laura and Carla and Mariko. This is a new vet for Ozy. This home visit vet has been here before for our civvies but we had kept Ozy at the vet where he has history. He did okay with the trips to the vet until recently. Lately he has been growling the whole time we are there. We also wanted at home training in giving subQ fluids because we failed at that before with him.

The home visit worked so well. The vet and her vet tech were here for over three hours. Ozy did very well with it all. And the vet saw him in his home environment. She gave us a much better perspective on his kidney disease, what to expect and how to care for him. They were both so supportive and informative and so kind to Ozy. It was a truly amazing experience.

It should always be like that.

Hi Donaleen - good to see an Ozy update. Hugs to you for the great job you are doing with him. You are doing a great job managing his BG and kudos for successful fluids! Many scritches to Ozy, the sweet boy. cat_pet_icon Great news on the home vet! I've been lucky with Neko and vet visits but it's something I should consider with my civie.

I'm sorry to hear the granulomas are still occurring frequently. Paws crossed for lots of good QOL yet for him.

Nice to see you and Ozy, Donaleen! I'm sorry he's having a tough time with this new challenge, but it sounds like you've found a wonderful vet to help out and you are getting a handle on it.

Sending lots of healing and QOL vines for your dear Ozy.

Hi donaleen and Ozy!!

So great to see you all. Ozy's been doing well BG wise other then those few cycles recently but looks like you have him back doing much better.

I hope he has many, many good days. If there is any help I can give you with the CKD, like looking at labs, I'd be happy to. Just send me a PM.

Hope you are well, too. We've missed you! :YMHUG: :YMHUG: :YMHUG:

Despite all that's going on, I hope Ozy is feeling OK. My vet in Chicago used to make house calls. Gabby is so miserable in the car that it was a wonderful part of their practice that they'd come out to see the kitties.

Hi there ~O)

Nice to hear from you. Ozy is one lucky kitty-boy to have landed with you guys . . .
Sending vines of strength and comfort to you all. . .

Thank you, donaleen. I'll look at his labs today and let you know any questions I have or thoughts you could discuss with your vet. Perhaps there will be something you haven't already thought of or she hasn't addressed.

Thanks Marje, Sienne and Sandy. Ozy had about two good hours yesterday. The rest of the time he was very lethargic. Good is a relative thing. But this morning so far isn't looking good. He threw up a clear liquid. He has very little appetite. Not even the bupe roused him.

The vet said to expect bad days and good days.
