SO Oyster seems to keep his day meals down but I night he's been vomiting everywhere. The vomiting started before I switched so I don't believe the insulin is the cause. He is constipated and his ketones are fine. Should I be truly alarmed?

Yes, constipation will cause them to vomit. That's what Dusty does when constipated, he'll strain and vomit until he gets unplugged. I've been using canned pumpkin and MiraLax with good success. I give him about 1/8 teaspoon of pumkin with each meal and I just dust the same 1/8 teaspoon with MiraLax every other meal. Much more will result in too soft stool in Dusty's case.

@Dusty Bones - how often do you feed Dusty? Saoirse vomited today and I suspect she may be slightly constipated. I was thinking of adding a smidge of canned pumpkin to her meals but because I have to feed her so many small meals I worry about possibly giving her too much.

How long after he eats does he throw up? Remi would be sick if he was left too long without any food and does much better on smaller mini meals. He also has Zantac but that was added on the advice of his vet.

I feed him about 6 times a day, you'll just have to adjust the amount, each cat is different. I started him off slowly, he didn't like it at first but I started with a toothpick tip amount and gradually increased. Maybe Saoirse will like it automatically some cats do.

I cant get him to touch pumpkin...not even a toothpick and the same goes with pysllium fibre. Is MiraLax a vet drug or human?

Oyster is free feed low cal dry food because he cannot be left alone that long without food or he will gourge and throw up. Im out of the house 10 hours a day. He gets half a can of friskies in the morning and 1/2 a can at night around nine. His puking is usually in the early hours. His tummy sure does grumble

Toothpick tip mixed in wet food? Dusty didn't even know it was there. MiraLax is the human kind, most vets suggest it and is safe for cats. Again start gradually and adjust as necessary; it's tasteless so it shouldn't be a problem, just mix it in the wet food. If you can mix some water with the wet food to make it sort of soupy that would be good too because MiraLax may make your kitty a little thirsty because it draws water to the stool to make it softer and more water is always better to get stool moving.

Thanks for the background. Saoirse actually likes pumpkin - she'll lick it off my fingertip! I gave her a teeny bit last year when she was slightly bound by a food I was trialling.

Vomiting may be a sign of pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and more. If unable to eat for 2 days, please go to a vet asap due to the increased risk of hepatic lipidosis which can be fatal.

He is eating and not every meal is being thrown up. I ended up purchasing some miralax today help him. I was wondering if I should get some co lace as well?

Pushing from the mouth end of things runs the risk of tearing the tissues of the GI tract, which can cause infection and could be fatal.

from Feline Constipation
"Feline Pet-ema – Sized for cats and available without prescription, Feline Pet-ema contains Dioctyl Sodium Sulfosuccinate (DSS), a stool softener, in glycerine, with Sorbic Acid as a preservative. Each Feline Pet-ema holds 6 ml of fluid. It is delivered

rectally via a prefilled disposable syringe. A stool softener does not work instantly nor necessarily quickly, it takes time to soften stool. The act of inserting anything into the rectum may provide enough stimulus, both in volume increase and nerve stimulation, to trigger action so the syringe tip itself may provoke action. If not, the increased volume from the syringe contents may provoke action. Or the action of the ingredients may do the work over more time."

When I read the site it mentioned : If the accumulated stool in the rectum is too large to pass comfortably through the anus in response to the signal, and is rock hard, even a small enema can be very uncomfortable for the cat unless the stool is first softened.

So Im thinking just to work with co lace first then an enema then miralax once cleared up. Think that would work? Or am I reading the quick review box wrong?

Colace goes in through the mouth and it will take too long to work. A vet visit to be dis-impacted is likely needed.

Is the vomit dark red/brown in colour or appear similar to coffee grounds? My Boo started vomiting 4 weeks ago at nighttime only around 4am and about 10 hrs after eating. Turned out to be pancreatitis. A blood test can confirm.
You could try reducing his fat intake and see if that helps.

Has he pooped at all in the last few days? You can try warm milk, the lactose and fluid will help push it out. Otherwise a vet visit is called for.

the safest way is to take him to the vet for an enema at the vet.....

I wouldn't add oral medications without an experienced hand at palpitating his body . They can feel when the intestine is blocked and full....
some of the folks here have become that experienced as well but if you don't know how to feel him up..... better to be safe.
