Our newly diabetic cat is shying away from shots?

Our cat Loki who has been getting 2 then 3 units of lantus in the shoulder area for going on 5 weeks now is starting to shy away from the shots. I give it to him while he is eating, he has been fine up till about two weeks ago and has since started to move away when i get near with his medicine. I gently hold him down give him his shot and he resumes eating. We just started giving him treats after the shot in hopes of that calming him a little bit. We were wondering if anyone has any suggestions as we are going on vacation in a couple weeks and want to make sure their are no problems why we are away. He has always been a friendly cat to begin with and isn't aggressive when he moves away just seems to know what is coming. Thank you!

Have you tried rotating the shot location a bit more? The scruff is usually well tolerated.
treats is a great way to make it a better experience.
For some cats lantus has a sting but you are not on a high dose so it is unlikely but possible. Sometimes letting it sit for a few minutes or holding with your hand to warm it a little will help also. (after you have drawn the dose)
You can also shoot in the loin area. I have found if I am animated an make it "special" telling him he is such a beautiful boy and stroking his ego a bit he could care less as long as I don't stop

If you could set up a spreadsheet and post home test results we might be able to give you some input on how the insulin might be making your kitty feel.
