Here's a copy of a post I just put over on the Community board. Don't know how many of you go over there so I just wanted to share it here also. You know how well we do with voting once we set our mind to it, so maybe we can get a grant for OLM!!! Kim, where are you? She has a great network of friends evidently!

I discovered the Animal Rescue Site over a year ago & started "clicking" each day to feed shelter cats. They also have a shelter challenge & I discovered Our Lady of Mercy is a shelter you can vote for! It would be great if everyone could go there to vote each day & spread the word to all your friends/family so we can see if we can win a grant for OLM! Here's the link to the Animal Rescue Site:

http://www.theanimalrescuesite.com/clic ... s?siteId=3

When you get to the page you will see a purple box that says "Click Here to Give - It's Free" once you click there a page will come up & you should see "Help your favorite shelter win"...click the Vote Now box. Another page will pop up & you should see "Welcom to the Animal Rescue Site 300,000 Shelter Challenge" Enter Our Lady of Mercy in SC & hit search. When it comes up just click Vote. You will have to confirm your vote by typing in the letters/numbers in the box then click "confirm vote". You should get a page saying "You voted for" Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage. I have been doing this for over a year & have never had any spam/trouble with the site. I do get a daily email from them because I signed up to get a reminder each day so I can remember to vote...from work & home!

Like so many people my finances are tight...especially since stray # 5 just "found" us but I still would like to try to help in some way. This could be an easy way to try to do some fund raising for OLM! Go vote & send an email to everyone you know asking them to vote also. Somewhere on the page there is an "invite friends" button to make it even easier! Thanks so much for voting....let's see if we can win a grant!

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

Ok, so I don't know why that won't work? Anyone else know?

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

poo. still broken. Barbara, is this the catnip cottage located near charleston SC?

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

Yes, Summerville as a matter of fact.

Do you know what I might be doing wrong with the link?

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

I think I fixed mine...gotta go fix it over on Community now.

Sue, your's worked but it just takes you right to the page to vote for the shelter challenge, skipping the one where you can just "click" to feed...since we're already going there might as well do that too! I'm not sure...I guess the places advertising on the page contribute to the food for the shelters?

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

One nice feature, and I'll have to see if it's still there the next time I vote. It tells you who you voted for the last time you visited, and I'm hoping it will give you the option of just voting for the same place without having to "search" for it every visit.

The voting results shows the top 10, and the percent of votes each has gotten, but I didn't see any number of votes listed.... how will we know how many votes we need once we crack the top 10?

After I voted, it took me back to the click to feed page.

Ok, good! I'm not too computer savvy...as you can tell! I have always clicked but hated that my vote for a shelter seemed like it was going to waste. I had voted for a local rescue but they just didn't promote the site so they were never going to win. It's an easy thing to do since we are all on the computer anyway & hopefully if there are enough votes OLM will win. They are somehow connected to DCIN, I can't explain exactly how but anyway Maureen posts on the board alot & has a couple of DCIN kitties. Sue probably knows more about it than I do since she's been around awhile!

It does save who you voted for last so you don't have to search each time. As for the other question....I don't know! Other than the local cat rescue I voted for Basenji Transport & Rescue in TX & they won once. I was so excited!! I had 2 Basenji's & my male Petey loved Gus & I swear sometimes acts like a Basenji but they both died last year. No more dogs for me though...they are a lot of work!! I'm more of a cat person!

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

This is how DCIN and OLM CC are connected:

You also can help with this cause, with cash donations and by sharing unused insulin and diabetic supplies with a cat in need. DCIN is a project of Maureen's Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage, a US 501c3 (nonprofit) organization, and donations are tax deductible. Information about making donations is on the DCIN Blog here.

Summerville is only about 2 hours away. I need to take a drive up there one weekend.

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

I haven't read this, but I heard the word VOTE!!!!!! I am going to check it out and see if I can help!

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

I knew Kim would show up with her band of friends...she must blackmail them! Doesn't look like it's generating much interest over on Community so far.

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

Okay.....Do you guys want to pull this off????? It sure is hard to vote....but, I think I could set this up with just the OLM Catnip Cottage as the only option and send it out....there is no way we will get people to maneuver through those steps. We need to simplify it. Truly, it might be easier to get $5000 donated than win it!!!

Okay are y'all in?

Since the Cookbook cover voting, I have had 3 Asher and Alby Thank You parties (drunks!!!) and I have been a lot more productive at work!

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

Barbara,
All we have to do is go into Community every day at least once and bump the thread. You can even update the Subject line to catch attention, like "WE NEED YOUR VOTES!!!!!". Just no candles, no rainbows, and no 911s

We shall vote the Chicago way, the Florida way AND the NC way.

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

You really think it's hard? I guess I've always done it so I didn't mind. The link Sue posted took you right to the voting page, so that might be easier.

Michelle, that's kinda what I was doing and I wanted to find somewhere to make it really count for something!

I second this notion. To get readers is to use keywords. There are some really funky keywords out there to grab attention - think of what would get you & try it - you can create new posts every few days with new keywords. "Fund raising" seems to be a universal turn-off. In my research things like "puppy", "time is running out", using first person & ownership = "I need your votes!" = "*goal of grant* can be possible with your help!", "You can help me make OLM a winner!" etc.

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

Thanks Barbara.
I have been clicking to feed shelter animals for several years and I divide my vote between Winging Cat Rescue, Griffin, GA that pulls and saves cats from kill/gassing pound in Spaulding, GA. Great organization that pulls kitties off death row in kill/gassing pound in Spaulding Co. and fosters, vets, spays and neuters, rehomes and transports. They have saved thousands of cats. Rikki's Refuge in VA is another I vote for, many of the Winging Cat Rescue pulls go to Rikki's.
I will add Our Lady of Mercy in SC to my voting list.
The Animal Rescue site has awesome products too, I have purchased Christmas gifts from their website and they are unique and well made.

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

Michelle, I thought the same thing when I put "fund raising" in the subject but couldn't think of anything else at the time. I will do something else.

Angela, that place in GA sounds awful! I have been reading DCIN blogs lately & they just saved what was thought to be a diabetic from NYC, it sounds like a horrible place! Some of the pics they put up of the cats there will break your heart, they look terrified. Since the cat DCIN placed has gotten to her final destination she has not needed any insulin at all! I think she was owner surrendered due to diabetes DX! I know there are a lot of good places out there I just was hoping to get lots of votes so hopefully OLM would have a chance to win.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Our Lady of Mercy's Catnip Cottage

Yes, Barbara, the Manhattan Center in NYC is a bad place too. Many are owner surrenders in NYC for no good reason and very high kill. All so sad.
I spend a lot of time on FB trying to help raise pull funds for some of the shelters and reposting the animals on FB, Twitter and my website.
Its actually very easy to burn out doing this, but I feel I have to try to help the poor innocent animals at kill shelters. Its just not right to not value a life like that, so many never have a chance, from tiny babies to seniors.

I voted! I haven't noticed a 24 hour clock on this one. At least I haven't seen an "you already voted on this poll" message.
I think Kim is still marshaling her forces, so we should start to climb the charts soon!
Carl

Really? Are you having to validate the vote, you know with the box you have to type the letters in? It always tells me "Sorry, you've already voted" or something like that. It will let me click to give food more than once though.

I haven't tried the "chicago" way. I just noticed that with the cover cat voting, you had to wait 24 hours, but the first 3 times I have voted on this one, it's been once a day, but less than 24 hours apart, and I haven't had to wait till later in the day for it to accept my vote. Maybe the counter is by "date" and not "hour and date"?

Carl

I was able to vote again at 4:00 am - after voting last night at 6:30 pm. I had to validate the vote and got to the screen that says thank you for voting.

Don't forget to vote....we are starting to make a difference! I checked on Friday & they were 13th in the state of SC...gotta admit I was disappointed BUT today I checked & as of around noon they had moved up to 12th!! Get everyone you know to vote!

That is good news! I tried to look at the "state" results, and it flashed briefly on the screen and then disappeared and wouldn't come back. We're number 12 with a bullet! Top Ten, here we come,
Carl

OLM has moved up to 10th in the state of SC as of this morning! Kim, we need your help!

Pass the word - get your friends to vote - still hanging in there at #10 we can move up with your help!!

maybe it's just my browser (Google Chrome) but I can never see the chart with the results.... I click on the flash add on to see if that's the issue, and it just hourglasses forever. Any idea where we are on the charts?
I wish they'd used the same site for voting as dcin did for the covercats. That was easier.

Carl

Unfortunately we are back to #11, I'm not seeing a lot of support & I didn't want to bug anyone if I was overstepping my bounds? And cause I'm me I sort of gave up.

After you vote click on Learn More about Shelter + Challenge, then Full Results
Scroll down to Shelter Challenge Ranking
Click on US States
Choose SC
Show top 50 then Show then Show Top Shelters
OLM is # 11

I had thought about seeing if OLM could post the button on their webpage, facebook page & maybe if DCIN would put it on their facebook page. There is a button on the website you can put on your page....I just haven't gotten around to it.
