I know many of us have or had more than one diabetic cat. Once I figure out how to allow for taking the poll for different cats, I'll post that option.

Cool LOL I was trying to figure out which one I should answer for, finally decided on Spot since he was my first but I have ages: 16, 13, 11 and 2.5

I had to choose too, between Shess and Bumper. I chose Shess 'cause he was my first. They were both strays though and I don't know really how old either one is/was. I had a rough idea on how old Shess was when he died (14) but it's still just a guess.

Gwyn was diagnosed just three months shy of her 15th birthday. Was _tempted_ to go for the next option up, as she had *way* more in common with a 16-year-old than an 11-year-old.

I have two diabetics both in the 8-10 catagory, but two "votes" there would change the results....

this has been quite an eye opener for me. all three of my current cats are between 8 and 14 yrs old, the age group most likely to be diagnosed as diabetic

for some ridiculous reason, because all three are NOT diabetic now, I always think that I'm in the clear, no diabetics here! ohmygod_smile doh!

very stupid way to think,eh?
you'd think after having two diabetics I'd know better. Snoopy was 13 but Sara was only about 5ys old was diagnosed.

two of my cats are overweight, one only slightly, the other is about 2lbs overweight

I am definitely getting more serious about her diet!! esp since she's had a depo shot and has been on pred and has ear drops with Dex in them

THANKS SO MUCH FOR DOING THIS POLL

used bunny for the poll and he is one of the two under one year old at time of dx cats there, but his diabetes at 6 months old was caused by steroid shot OD so think that kinda skews vote?

    bunny(GA)~6 months
    chester(GA)~12 yrs old.
    mystic(foster)~10 yrs old.
Y(GA)~under 2 yrs old (DM cause by p-titis from being poisoned by original owners)
    settledown~7 yrs old.

i don't count all the diabetic cat fosters i've had if i lived with them for under a year, but quick mental poll was around 10~12 yrs old for most.

Great to have this but for future reference the numbers are slightly flawed. By having:

    8-10 then
    11-14 you are skipping groups.

Kyndra was 10 1/2 (exactly) so she does not really fit in either of these two categories, so shouldn't it be (like most polls):

    8-10
    10-14
    14-.... etc.

Maybe my obsessive brain is just being too nit-picky :-/

I put down when Sabrina was actually diagnosed as requested but did want to mention that now, in retrospect, she's been showing symptoms for a couple of years (mangy coat, peeing gallons, drinking a lot, etc.). Yeah, I hate admitting it but wanted to mention as I'm sure that others may have been in the same boat or "cat box."

Puff was put to sleep exactly one month after diagnosis (2/17/10). He was on Glipizide oral insulin for the time period 2/20/10 to 3/16/10 at which time he stopped eating so I stopped the insulin.

My cat is turning 15yrs in a month and was diagnosed 5 days ago. I am doing the home testing to make sure I do not give him too much insulin. I read in a web site the goal is to keep the Blood glucose level between 100 and 200. Is this correct? confused_cat
