Had to call Robin to share the news

He did it with the help of his Aunt Robin and Aunt Sue!!-

Curious- I was reading posts fron "nancy & payne" - and she mentioned: "I am going back to 3u TID and a drop of R until the ketones drop"

What does 'TID' and a drop of 'R' mean?

and "dx" means 'diagnosed'- correct?

Congrats on your  ! I used to only use this smilie to show I was green with envy! And you got one!!! Woo Hoo!!! Great to see a good response!

Crept back up to 126 at 7:40- Shot a skinny 0.2 Used U100 syringe and conv chart for the first time--- (I sure HOPE I shot a skinny .02) but I think i did OK- )

Going out at 8:30- will retest and post just before I leave

Anyone know how to put a note in the SS the way Dr Pierson noted the "USING RELION TEST KIT"? My note about the U100 didnt come our correctly

thanks!

I would test about an hour after the shot. Maybe we can get a sense of how this cycle is going to go. But I don't think I would go out. We just don't know what he will do with the insulin, even the tiny amount.

What line on the U100 did you draw it up to?

Carl

It was between the first half mark and the end- i checked with dr pierson- she thinks its ok that i shot a 126. But i
will take care to never do that again without more data

Okay good. It should have been just less than .5u in the U100, so you got it:-)
I agree with Dr. P., too.
Are you back home or out?
Did she suggest when it might be good to test again?
Carl

Im out - my roommate is keeping any eye on him and
said hes alert and fine- ate some food. Dr p didnt say when to test again
I may do it when i get home after midnight. - thank you for
your help!!

Best thing to do is what we call an "in the door" check. Just test when you get home. If he's low, feed him a spoonful or two. If nothing else, and no problems, it's still useful data to have.
Carl

12:40am test is 63- I see he threw up 'medium carb' food that was given within the last 3 hours- put down a bit more- he ate all of it- is 63 worrisome? Its his lowest yet---

I try to avoid words like "normal" when it comes to cats and diabetes ;-)

63 at five hours past a shot, when you started at 123 is beautiful. How's that?

If you want to, feed him a snack of regular low carb food, and that should prohibit a lower number. This should be getting close to when his nafir is supposed to happen.

That? sounds great. I keep saying- (and I need to start NOT) continuing to poke after 3 unsuccesful tries. He lets out little meows, tries to wriggle away, and it makes me want to cry right along with him- but I feel so damned determined to get that test then and there- a mistake, I know-

He is BAR at present, but wont purr for me (probably still bent about the test ?) - but his ears are VERY warm to to the touch, and usually they're nice and cool- does this mean anything significant?

It depends what he was up to just before test time as far as the ear temp goes, I think. Bob's ears will be warm if for instance he just woke up after a nap where he was snuggled up to me or his "brother" Mullet, or had his head tucked against something. If he's acting okay, the warm ears are most likely no big deal.
Sometimes it helps to give two pokes quickly right beside each other. And rub his ear towards the "hole" you poked in it.

Carl

Looking good, Tashia. Good job keeping tracking of his numbers. I'm so glad Carl is our resident night owl.

I would suggest we just move forward with 150 as your number, thinking the .2 is a safe dose. Interesting that your nadir was almost the same with or without insulin, although we can't be sure whether he went down lower before or after the 63, but he probably stayed above 40.

First of all: :RAHCAT Cheers To Henry :RAHCAT Gobbles' ears are warm often; I've even posted in the past about that. I only notice it when he's been sleeping and I wake him for his shot, and it is usually the ear on which he is laying on.....

Thanks Sue- can you coach me on how you saw his nadir? Do you mean the 130 & the 126 about 12 hours apart yesterday?

Determining nadir still seems fuzzy to me-- I believe its 'the lowest he gets in a 12 hour period' correct?

and probably, one cant tell the nadir unless tests are run every 2 hours over a 6 hr period ? But I said 12 above- ok- im over thinking and confusing myself---

Technically you can't tell his nadir unless you get a test every 2 hours every cycle. If you do that, you can pinpoint the lowest point or nadir. It COULD have been the 63 last night.

Generally it is between 5-7 hours after the shot. So we say that the nadir of most cats is +6. But there is that Every Cat is Different thing.

That's why I wondered if he might have been lower before or after your test last night. If you want to know his nadir, you can do a curve - a test every 2 hours. That will give you a idea of where he is generally lower. BUT nadirs can change over time, so it would still be a guess on the cycles where you didn't do a curve.

Clear as mud?

Ok, that's great. Can you check again at noon?
Carl

Edit - this would just be to satisfy my curiosity since he didn't get any juice this morning :-)

Switched litter boxes around noon, not knowing the old one had a hole in the bottom- needless to say- litter all over the livingroom leading out the front door :o - just got done cleaning and vacuuming- hes in his 'safe pwace' hiding in the furnace room now- cant get to him- when he pops out, I will test right away and report back-

Cats are considered regulated if on insulin, they are around 200 at preshot and in the hundreds or below at nadir, on insulin. They are considered in remission if, off insulin, they range from 40-120 with most of their time in double digits, for 2 weeks. He is getting there!

5pm- PMPS 112- will test before bed and report back in- although it seems I dont need to send a post every time I test,as I have been doing-

I dont want to 'clog' the board- confused_cat

It is not a huge forum and we like hearing from you, Tashia.

If you prefer, you can put your numbers in the subject line. Start with amps 132. Then as the day goes on, you can go back to your first post, choose edit and add the numbers you get. For example, +2 107, +6 109, pmps 112. That way we can see your numbers for the day at a glance. Start a new thread every day with your amps - unless you have a specific question or concern. Then start a new topic.

Nice numbers today.
