Our Clare is mewing all the time. What to do?

Since we started treating Clare for diabetes, she's been mewing a lot more. Most of the time she seems to either want to go out on a walk (we use a lead now, although she used to be an indoor/outdoor cat) or have a snack. Other times she just seems to want some attention and cuddling -- at least she stops mewing while we cuddle her.

Has anyone else's cat done this? Are there any things we should be checking? Have you any ideas about how to help her be calmer?

Thanks, LL.

Does it have any relationship to her glucose level? If she is low when she cries, she may need to eat something.

Does it have any relationship to hunger? Unregulated diabetes may require feeding as much as 50% more food.

Active play, 15-30 minutes per day may help use some of the energy, plus improve your bond with her.

She has food out most of the time when she is mewing, so I think it's most often something else. Maybe it is related to her glucose level - I'll check on that. It also might be excess energy -- we take her on a lot of short walks but it probably doesn't match the exercise she used to get when she was freely going outside. I'll start playing with her more and see if that helps. Thanks!

I have a female kitty who cries a lot and is very restless when she has a UTI. She also visits the litter box often. She likes a lot of human attention and comfort too. Two days on an antiobiotic and she has been resting, catching up on missed sleep and I assume the pain is lessened because she is no longer crying. You might want to have her urine checked.
