I'm pleased to say that Butkus has not had any shots in almost 3 weeks. From what I have read, they are considered OTJ after 2 weeks correct?

I'm very relieved but also hesitant because it seemed to go too smoothly. I'm so glad I stared testing when I did because I think this could have ended very badly if I hadn't. From the time I stared testing, Butkus was in normal ranges so I just stopped the insulin completely and removed all dry food. So far he's stayed quite level.

Is this normal? I think I read on here that sometimes when bg's come down the pancreas can start to work again on it's own. Maybe that it what happened.

I'm so thankful for the advice and information I have received from everyone here. I have to admit I kind of feel guilty when I've read so many scary stories. These 3 months have been far from stress free but compared to some other stories I feel very lucky.

So now what? Do I keep testing him daily? Weekly? Can he relapse anytime?

Hurray! :RAHCAT :RAHCAT :RAHCAT Yes, looks like he is off the juice! I would test once a day for awhile, then once every couple of days, once a week, etc. and once a diabetic, always a diabetic. He can never have dry food again - always wet low carb.

Once a diabetic, always a diabetic. Yes, he can relapse and need insulin in the future, that is always a possibility. But hopefully, with diet change, he won't ever fall out of remission (OTJ).

I suggest random testing once a day for a couple weeks and then once a week for a month and then once a month. Keep your testing supplies because if you ever see behavior changes, ie - weight loss, excessive peeing, excessive drinking, you want to test again, just to be sure everything is ok.

As long as he stays in normal range, then celebrate each day, but always be prepared just in case.

And if you do get one test that is above normal range - don't panic. Wait an hour and test again just to be sure. Remember one test number doesn't necessarily mean anything is wrong.

Finally, CONGRATS!
