Hi all,

After wondering whether his just above normal values were okay (viewtopic.php?f=9&t=107303), the Vet wanted me to try a week without insulin, so we did. Looking good so far.

I do wonder though, why 50-100 is considered the normal here based on the lantus protocol with human glucometer, when every lab says normal is up to 140? The labs also use the same equipment that is used for humans. Anyway, I digress...

So I ran some bloodwork at my lab, and the results (viewtopic.php?f=28&t=107856) seemed to confirm a bacterial infection of sorts.

So yesterday was surgery time - three teeth ended up being removed (incl a canine), plus I got his hernia fixed while he was under. And this morning, an hour after eating, I got a beautiful 77 BG!

I am hoping that he's back in remission now, and will stay there for a while again now that he's had his dental! My previous vet didn't believe me that he just had one two years ago, but I guess things progress quickly with diabetics...

And here is a pic of Heart wearing his new Tux (it was either a onesie or a cone to keep him from chewing his stitches)

I've seen a fair amount of variability in what is considered "normal" BG. With humans, BG values are typically coupled with HgA1C values. With regard to OTJ, the tight regulation protocol stipulates that numbers should be largely under 100.

I'm glad Heart is doing well. I hope he has a speedy recovery.

Morning! Mega strong healing vines to Heart. I am glad that the surgery and the dental went well. Very very cool on the BG's! Keep those greens coming Heart.

Very handsome in his onesie...ooops, I mean his Tux
Glad all went well and hoping for fast healing and heading back to the Falls!!

aw, what a sweetie.

i wonder if the difference is between using a human meter and using an Alpha Track. Under 130ish on an AT is the equivalent of under 100ish on a human meter.

in any case, i hope this does the trick for the little guy. he looks cute in his onsie tux!
